Hi,
Great idea to go camping, can be an acquired taste but the kids absolutely love it. On the subject of torches and little ones we now have got some LED ones as the batteries last for years and the kids can play with them, they can also be left on all night to act as a 'night-light' for little ones who are a bit nervous of the dark (and my wife!)
Hope the camping goes well but we haven't had the weather for it much this year.
PS - we have just bought a trailer tent and are taking it to France for two and half weeks in August. Gulp0 -
Most things have been mentioned above but from experience one thing I always take is ear plugs.
It's amazing how far sound travels at night and how early other campers can wake and start talking and a tent wall doesn't stop much sound.
A cool box and ice packs, which can usually be refrozen at most sites for a small charge, will keep milk, bacon etc. cool for a few days.
B&Q do a disposable BBQ stand for about £3.50 which stops you burning the grass. Just slot the disposable BBQ in the top and bob's your uncle0 -
My tip is to make sure you have a lot of insulation between you and the ground...just an airbed didn't do it for me!
Also.....any one got any suggestions for a weekend in the midlands? Live in Leamington spa and since it's just for a week end don't want to go to far (also has to be dog friendly!)

Going back to the start of the thread would recommend Tom's Field in Langton Matravers which is just outside swanage with an hourly bus to Swanage or Poole via Corfe in the other direction (cheaper than the steam train by miles which I think for an adult was £10 per day.) Good shop, BBQ's to rent, quiet site, 2 pubs within walking distance, close to Dancing ledge on the coastal path. Showers and toilet no hook-ups but then we camp on a basic level wanting to get away from the mod-cons for a while! Hope the trip to Harmans Cross was good - we're hoping to go to Toms Field or New Forest next week.
