A few Vodafone / iPhone 5S Questions!

Hi all,

Just a few quick questions about the 5S .Vodafone based questions if anyone can help!

I’m currently in a 24 month contract with Vodafone at the moment on my iPhone 4S but really want the iPhone 5S on a 12 month ‘Vodafone Red 4G-ready L’ and am hoping to buy it from a Vodafone store Friday morning on launch. The fact I already pay £10 a month to Spotify which I can now cancel, continued involvement with festivals I attend & an ongoing fantastic service makes sticking with Vodafone a no brainer.

My questions around this -

1- My upgrade date is the 8th October 2013 so I assume contract end would be around 3 months later, I’m currently paying £36 a month inc VAT + a £5 add-on for 500mb extra data, with this information taken into account how much money would I be looking at to buy out of my existing contract?

2- Has it been announced that Vodafone / other stores (Carphone Warehouse? Phones 4u?) will have the phones available for Fridays mornings launched or is a it just a given?

3- I’ve looked on the Vodafone buyback website and the guide price for the 4S is £175, unfortunately my top button is pretty stuck and hard to use so it’d class as faulty. I know this particular fault with the iPhone is quite common so I’m curious if anyone else has sold their phone in this state / how much they received in comparison to the basic price?

4 – I know 4G on Vodafone isn’t yet available in Cardiff which is fine, is there any rumour or rough estimate of when it’ll arrive that anyone’s aware of?

Thanks a lot for any help!

Karl

For vodafone, the amount you will pay will be the monthly amount ex vat, for the remaining months, minus a 2% discount.

The add-ons are usually on a monthly basis so you should be able to cancel that and not be part of your termination fee.

    so about £30 x 4 = £120, so about £118

Theres no guarantee they will have phones for launch, it would depend how many they get from apple, and how many have preordred them. Sometimes with new phones it can take some time before they are available
  • Why not just wait till your upgrade date as its only a few weeks away? I have upgraded to the 5c but I was past my upgrade date anyway so can't help with the 5s question

The Vodafone mast that serves my area - home and work has been down since the 24th August. I have no signal and so cannot use my phone.

Vodafone cannot give me a date or even an estimate as to when that might be fixed.

No one at the company can help me although they "totally understand where I'm coming from".

I just find that totally unacceptable for a company with the resources of Vodafone. I cannot imagine a mindset where I would tell one of my customers such a thing. For a start I'd be professionally embarrassed.

IMO opinion you'd be mad to sign a 24 month contract that treats it's customers in this way. Once you have signed that contract all bets are off. I'll never do it again.

Buy the phone from Apple - they actually do know what customer service is - or at least that's been my experience. That then leaves you free to take a monthly sim only contract with whoever.

Do the sums - it's actually cheaper (admittedly you have to fork out for the phone) but at least it's an "Apple" phone.

BTW it's £750 for me to get out of my contract - I have a phone that may as well be a brick and a customer service department that seem genuinely not to care.

But go ahead if you want to take the gamble.
  • There may be factors beyond their control in terms of fixing the mast, e.g. legalities of access if they don't own the land/building the mast sits on. See if Vodafone will send you a Sure Signal (or whatever they call it) until it is fixed?

Although your point about getting the phone outright is helpful your mast being down is hardly related to this topic or the poster. Attempting to persuade the OP to switch to another network where exactly the same issue could occur (masts go down, cant always be helped) is not worth doing unless the OP stands to save money in the process without losing signal.
