I always question 'how can they sell one at half the price of another' - simply because you pay for quality.

Do you really believe that old chestnut?

In many cases (not just with tyres) how they can sell one for half the price of another is by selling more at the lower price, or by saving on the advertising bills needed to convince the one-born-every-minute that they're getting a much better product for the doubled price.

Yes, price and quality are linked to a point but you honestly wouldn't believe the mark-ups involved where "quality" is invoked for the gullible!

Errr yes if my car has been 'curbed' probably by my wife, I would consider that that tyre is unsafe to use any longer especially at high speeds over a great distance. I have changed tyres that have shown no damage on the outside, but could well have hidden damage within the structure.

If a tyre has been curbed, and there is no damage at all obvious externally, then the tyre is safe. If there is some sign of damage externally, then it would be worth getting it removed and examined.

I honestly don't believe it that people are willing to use damaged tyres on the road including those that have had a screw go through them and a garage has offered to 'plug' the hole. Any weakness in the structure, no matter how slight is an accident waiting to happen.

A tyre that has been plugged properly is just as safe as a brand new tyre. This is why they now plug them rather than patching them.

As for people agreeing that a Stanley knife blade buried up to it's hilt in the tyre is still safe to use are plain and simply mad!

That's a bit of an exaggeration isn't it?

The OP said that the blade had only gone in 4-5mm into a nearly new tyre. If this had been the case, then it wouldn't have even been as deep as the tread.

Tyre depots must love you. ;)

They may do so, but I feel comfortable in the knowledge that what rubber I have on the road is the best that it can be.

Cost doesn't even come into it - safety and security is far more important.

I spend on average about £600 every year on tyres and travel about 10,000 miles a year.

    Wow. £600 a year, 10,000 miles.

I honestly don't have the words, The ones I have, will get me banned.

There really is only one answer to that:

    Now you must be joking!!

You have no idea how those tyres were treated or where they have been. One local firm that sells this rubbish trades under the name of 'Skiddies' and they obtain their stock from write offs and MOT failures that are scrapped.

I wouldn't want to put my life and the lives of my family at the door of a couple of 'part worns'.

    death traps!!

Guys, stop baiting the troll who doesn't even have a valid driving licence
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

You would absolutely love the 4 (completely different) part worn chinese tyres that I've just put on to do a 120 mile daily commute...
