  • I wonder if all the children who manufacture the clothes are so happy with the bargains they produce.

nothing wrong with this statement at all, but do remember the same children will be getting paid the same wages for producing clothes for H&M, Next, and other 'posh' high street shops...

very true !!! Anyone buy GAP, Reebok, Addidas, umbro ??? Theres actually been investigations because of these companies poor track record when it comes to child labour - primark has not.

most of their clothes are made in madrid so not neccessarily "third world" some of their clothes are also made in mauritus (where my great grandad comes from) and its not exactly third world there either.

I went primark yesterday and ended up getting 6 tops and 2 jeans for sixty quid!!! yes the clothes wont last as long as the very expensive cothes but i dont like keeping them for THAT long anyway !!!

OMG im a primark convert !!!
    Merry Christmas MSE!

I have bought from there before but to be honest the quality is generally !!!! and to be honest the phrase 'buy cheap buy twice' springs to mind. I've had the odd good bit, but a lot of it really is naff and the mentality of people who shop there is unbeleivable. Don't get me wrong, I am very skint myself, but so disheartened with buying stuff and it falling apart/going out of shape/fading. And if they can sell it so cheap, what are they paying the people who make it? Makes me feel quite funny so I try to buy elsewhere.

Whilst I know that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, i do not feel there is anything "unbelievable" about my "mentality" just because I shop at Primark.

Not yours particularly, and as I said I do sometimes shop there and 'on topic' have had bargains but I am sure most people know exactly what I mean... The people who chuck all the clothes on the floor and leave piles in the changing rooms and are basically disrespectful. I think you have taken offence unnecessarily.

I meant that I try to buy fairtrade (Primark actually had some fairtrade tops this year, which I would class 'fairtrade bargains'!)
I personally don't shop in Next for that very reason, no ethical policies promoted and expensive considering it's manufacturing process. H&M I try not to shop there but do love some of the clothes!!!And frankly I would never buy Reebok, Nike, Umbro or Adidas, because they are well known for there appalling work ethics with their production companies.(Also can't bear clothes/shoes with names/logos!!!)
Although that said, Gap and Nike have both, I beleive made huge steps in this area, and Gap particularly-after being pulled up on it some time ago have changed things radically (although there is still a way to go) I wasn't picking on Primark, but to me it accentuates the scandal, as they sell clothes for 50p, and it makes me think.
I am not trying to be unrealistic, but awareness is no bad thing.
