I have now registered and bought my first top up with VoipGain. €10 translates to £10.94! I was expecting something nearer £8.50. I'm pleased with the service and call quality though. Nobody I have called has noticed I'm not calling from a normal landline as the call quality has been excellent using the iPhone app.

Has anyone tried Broadvoice in UK? You have to bring your own equipment though. They have a calling plan (Unlimited World Premium) which is around $65 and includes unlimited calls to 95 countries and 62 mobile areas including UK. Any experience will be welcome.

Voipgain €10 is excluding 15% luxembourg VAT and 1.5% currency conversion, they will charge you something like €12.41 to cover the VAT and currency conversion

All I can say is it's been great. I've made loads of calls, some quite long, to landlines with no problems at all and still have my €10 credit. I've only used the free iPhone app as, living alone, it's all I need.

Been using voipgain since July 2010, as i said on my post above, call quality depends heavily on broadband bandwidth/connection upload speed.

My broadband is fibre optic cable on virgin hence the call quality is exactly like normal bt line call, i use it when i am out and about on my blackberry and the quality is very good.

I've found the call quality very good over 3G using the iPhone app so now I don't need to use my mobile minutes to call landlines when away from home.

I'm looking to use VOIP as an alternative to line rental

As I will be using it on a work computer with admin rights, so I need something that doesn't need to be downloaded.

The exception is Skype, which seems to download and run fine. Also I can access this on my mobile which is good.

I'm not worried about call charges as I get them refunded through expenses. Its really the line rental I am trying to avoid

Just wondering with Skype, if I buy a number
    - do you get free voicemail?
    - can I get an itemised bill?
    - are there any cheaper alternatives?

    Thanks alot for your help

Just remember that many companies class Skype as a P2P app, so ban it.

What's the simplest set up for a tech devoid 72yr old?

My mum is with BT, she needs a land line that can make outgoing calls as she has a lifeline pendant, but if I could sort a simple voip solution out for her she could use voipgain and apply for bt basic since she gets pension credit.

I know it's possible, but how do I have a phone that will fall back to the land line should the internet go down?
