Why does everyone seem to use sippgate for incoming and a betamax (?) company for outgoing calls? The betamax companies only seem to charge 1 euro for a line - is that a one off or monthly fee?

As far as i am aware betamax companies no longer offer incoming numbers.

I fell for this last time, they give you a 056 number, not a geo number like they did in the past/sipgate

Would appreciate some advice as there appears to be a lot of experienced people on here

I run my own business from home, working for different clients. I use the clients laptop, so am limited to what I can download and install (there often admin rights protected so don't allow you to install stuff).

I currently have Virgin broadband and telephone, but would like to replace the telephone line rental.

I can bill calls to the client, so would need an itemised bill, unless calls are free.

I also have family in France, so would like to be able to call them for free.

Mobiles for free would be useful, but not essential as I have a contract mobile.

My mobile allows me to download the VoipStunt application, but can't test it without registering and I assume adding credit. If I used my Wi-Fi and had the mobile app constantly on, could I use it like a cordless phone?

I would ideally like to connect up a normal landline. It seems you can use a ATA on a normal phone? A LINKSYS PAP2-NA UNLOCKED seems to be recommended.

I would need a incoming number, but VoipStunt seem to provide these for 1 euro, so combined with free calls to UK and French lndlines for 10 euros every 120 days doesn't seem bad.

    Any advice greatfully rececieved!!!!

See my post #534 click on the link and you should have all the information you want.
    cheers

Okay. I've had a quick look through the thread and am getting confused with all the providers, whats best, whats to be avoided etc. So am looking for a little advice.

I'd like to get rid of my landline (or swap it to the cheapest available since I my mum has a lifeline which needs to be attached to a phone line capable of outgoing calls).

I'd like to be able to use the voip service using a 'normal' style houe phone that has wireless handsets.

I already have a sipgate account. So should I just figure out what handsets are best nd use sipgate, or do as many seem to do and use sipgate for incoming and anther provider for outgoing?

    Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Have a look at a guide i wrote earlier about VoIP options here and ask questions if you are still not sure what to do.

I am considering VoIP, but not Skype as it is a closed system I believe. I would like to have opinions on routers with integral VoIP ports, and adapters.

My current router is a free ISP's Thompson TH585 v7. How would that work with an adapter: would I be better satisfied with an integral set up?

I have a Linksys SPA2102 connected to a port on my D-Link 635 router. My main account (for incoming calls) is with voip.co.uk and this set up works fine. I also have a sipgate line registered on the second connection but this is not really used. I don't make outgoing calls as I have far too many minutes on my 3 mobile.

I have used this ATA for about 4 years now without any major issues, firmware is now updated via cisco.

Balls in air very much as other party needs to work on what is best for our communications. Phone and internet there is tricky.

I'll jeep your suggestions in mind. Thanks! :)
