US websites.... US people call Air Rifles... BB guns...

WAY!!!! more powerful than the UK BB guns.. And even proper air rifles...

For an air rifle in the UK to be as powerful as those sold in the US you would need a firearms licence.

You can buy an air rifle with 30 - 40ft/lbs of muzzle energy in the US where in the UK we are limited to 12ft/lbs unless you register it and have a firearms certificate.

Scaremongering... Did you know B&Q sell bricks.. Terrible...They should be shut down..
Have you seen how much damage a brick can do if you beat someone to death with it ot throw it at someone?

I was walking down the road this morning, I saw some stones in the gutter. What happens if someone picks one up and throws it at someone else? Instant death?

The RSPCA deal with about 500 cases of cats shot with BB guns and air rifles in the UK each year.

Guns can be restricted because they are not needed by children and the general public in every day life. Stones and bricks are used in day to day life so it would be unrealistic to attempt to restrict them.

Two of those links are from United States of America.

The Peterborough news item is about airgun pellets.

Not sure there is any relevance here to BB guns as sold in the UK.

There is an awful lot of incorrect information here. Sorry to pick on you earthstorm but a lot of what you have said is wrong...

nothing wrong as long as the guns are coloured and not black and they are spring loaded and not air released and they dont sell to anyone under 16.
They should be at least 51% brightly coloured to sell to someone who does not hold a legal defence to the VCRA (eg an airsofter). They are not restricted to spring powered. Air and gas power are fine as long as don't exceed certain fps limits. And the minimum age is 18, not 16.

This is why BB guns sold in UK must be coloured Blue, Red, Yellow etc. It is Illegal to sell BB guns that are Black or Silver.
It is not illegal to sell bb guns that are black or silver but the buyer must have a legal defence to the VCRA (eg an airsofter)

yes and must only be used is a UKARA registered gun club/premises
Or at any private property that allows the use of them.

no just having it on your person is enough to be charged.
No its not but you must have a valid reason for carrying them i.e. on way to an airsoft site, on way back from shop etc.

you can display as long as they are the correct colour and sell to over 16s only.
but why are they not kept the same size as a cap gun but with a very weak spring.

why would you want a high velocity air powered BB gun unless you planned to do some damage of some kind.
The minimum age is 18, not 16.

To the OP - they are not illegal to stock or display them in any colour, they only become illegal if they are sold to someone who is under 18 or in the case of realistic imitations (e.g. all black) are sold to someone who does not hold a legal defence to the VCRA (eg an airsofter)

Ahh, my favourite (and most ridiculous) argument used by the pro-gunners
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Children and the general public do not need guns in this country.

My daughter needs her Rohm Twinmaster Top to compete in her sport of Tetrathlon, she is only 9 years old and has represented her country twice at home internationals.

If she is any good she will go on to hopefully compete for Team GB in the Modern Pentathlon.

She also fences is that a no no too?

.....who is a registered UKARA member using it on registered, insured premises.
You don't actually have to be UKARA registered, you just need to be able to prove you have a valid defence to the VCRA. For ease of identification most bonafide retailers insist on UKARA membership as it is easier for them to confirm.

You can also legally use RIFs (realistic imitation firearms) on any private property that allows it. The property does not have to be insured or registered by law, although the property owner could be liable for any injuries hence insurance is recommend.
