  • Sadly, I believe so.

However, from experience, I did find that speaking very calmly but incredibly clearly so my carefully moderated voice carried across the entire shop as I advised the manager that any incidents of cat, dog or wildlife shootings in the area would result in his being called to account, as the only supplier for miles, actually resulted in his deciding there were better things to become well known for selling.

For golds sake it is a bb gun and probably a very under powered one at that!!!!!! You would have more chance of killing a wild animal, cat, dog with a potato gun!! Sorry but this had to be said, there are more important customer rights issues to address on this wonderful site.

Where did Jojo mention an animal being killed?

BB guns can blind and maim small animals, in some cases they would be better off if they were actually killed rather than being left without sight, infected flesh wounds and a nice big vet bill for a domestic pet owner.

Please check out the internet Madpolly. Sadly there are myriad cats killed by people who use BB guns every year.

Downright cruelty or foolish mistakes can be eradicated by not selling any type of gun to people outside the controlled sporting arena. Children and the general public do not need guns in this country.

When I was a child I was shot in the leg by a man using a BB gun. We were on opposite sides of a playing field so there couldn't have been much velocity left but it still did damage.

So to confirm, you wouldn't mind being shot by anything as long as you didn't die?
  • So, the answer is, its not illegal to display as long as they sell to the correct people....a bit like alcohol.

you can display as long as they are the correct colour and sell to over 16s only.
but why are they not kept the same size as a cap gun but with a very weak spring.

why would you want a high velocity air powered BB gun unless you planned to do some damage of some kind.

When I was younger I had a BB gun and used to love taking shots at static objects like tin cans. It is ok to have just for fun.

Which is why two-tone, transparent and neon BB guns are legal to sell without restrictions to anyone over 18 and it is legal to buy one and give it to your 14 yo child to use on your own private land.

Yep.. I totally support the rule. My comment was in response to earthstorm's suggestion the only reason to have one is to cause damage.
