20% are not refusing smarts, that will be a very small percentage, less than 1%. There will be a much larger pecentage who dont want anyone coming into their homes changing their meters. This will be the many people now taking advantage of the suppliers poor attempts to stop bypassing of gas/electric meters. In certain areas of the UK it is rife. Smarts will be a major weapon in stopping free energy. There will be big problems in getting in to these houses, even now I am coming across old electric card prepays which were withdrawn 8 years ago, only to be discovered when the house/flat becomes vacanthappenstance wrote: »The "target" is 80% so that leaves 20 without.0 -
The people refusing smarts are the people that don't want people coming onto their property or giving the supplier/hacker the control to turn off their electricity remotely, especially with the energy shortage that will be here in less than 10 years.sacsquacco wrote: »20% are not refusing smarts, that will be a very small percentage, less than 1%. Surely if there is 19% of people bypassing the meter they could easily check the local substations for ones that are using significantly more than they are billed for over the last year and then investigate each identified home. Either with or without the permission of the home owner. 19% would be billions and billions.0 -
I never said 19% are fiddling, but there is a large number ( and growing as OFGEM has just realised ) of bypassers. Because of the cost of catching these the suppliers take the cheaper option and turn a blind eye. No prosecutions neither because that is expensive, its cheaper to let them get away with it.Its a national disgrace that this is now allowed to be happening. Money rules, the suppliers look to the bottom line. Unearthing long term bypassers can hit their mark ups seriously. I have just found a 4 year, high use gas bypasser ( they never even checked his electric ) and his debit put on his prepay by Scottish Power was only £230 rather than the £3000 which was due. Smarts will hopefully put a stop to all this and people like you are helping these thieves in refusing smart meters. so do the decent thing and put away your reserves and accept it. I have one and like it and use it quite a lot, the monitor is on full view all the time
If you dont want us traipsing into your house , get a smart. we will only be looking at these once in blue moon0 -
if the whole of the planet was to just put away their reserves and accept what the big biz told us it would be a very sorry state.
at best there will be 20% without them so its not going to combat any theft. surely they can identify pockets of areas and go after them? there will be a whole load of unemployed readers i assume.
people have always stolen electricity, magnets on meters, small hall drilled and a pin, sugar to attract ants. its nothing new, it should be a priority for the companys to fix that, and smart meters wont solve that.
its like the water companies that for years have had leaky pipes and refused to fix them.
Dont blame me for helping thieves, its the the supplies responsibility.0
