A 1kwhr electric heater bar on for an hour would give you a good idea of either under or over useage.Smart meter refusniks will be eventually saddled with a metering bill of approx £60 a year, so you will have to pay for your principles. Thats fair enough as your actions are forcing suppliers to keep a team of meter readers in employment. I am baffled that you dont even want a digital meter, or that you even have a preference as to what type of meter is in your house. Its not your property, neither is it the suppliers
I must admit that 100ths dials not going round is a new one on me. Whenever I have found that happening on the gas meters its stopped it dead. The honest thing to do is to report it to the supplier and cover yourself0 -

so you either decide to have one, or eventually get cut off...!
Could you not buy your own meter and have it fitted by the board?0 -

I don't think 60 a year is fair as the meter reading charges are currently built into the pricing structure. If it was fair they would give everyone on "smart" meters a 60 discount as their actions are saving money on a team of meter readers.
It might not be my property but its in my house hence why I have a preference for the tried and tested method.0 -

You can if ofgem approved meter, however no supplier will give the required permission to fitDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -

If you are with BG, most probably it will be a smart, thats where you can use your veto and send the meter fitter packing ( he will only be carrying smart meters) With the others 100% likely they will have your other pet hate, a digital meter. So your options are, stick with your old meter with its fault or accept a smart/digital. If you are adament, you will be able to string it out for years. I have come across people who have had a stopped gas/electric meter for years and the suppliers dont twig at all.happenstance wrote: »I see, so if I have a faulty meter its likely they will just replace with the latest model? and that's likely to be smart or dumb?0 -

Thanks much appreciated, I'm with ecotricity but I doubt that makes much difference.
I assume as I have got a meter that is at least 20+ years old, they would not even try to see if it is accurate first and fix it but would just want to replace it?
As my meter is faulty with some static faction numbers, is it possible they would demand I got a new meter installed or cut me off?0
