Online dating sites

I have met several ex partners online. I choose online dating because I rarely go out to clubs and can't imagine meeting the love of my life in a seedy club or drunk in a bar.
Online dating allows you to get to know the person before even meeting and like someone else mentioned, if you go on looks alone - good luck finding Mrs Right.
One of my online relationships lasted 5 years, lived together etc.
I am now currently seeing a lovely girl who I would not have met if I hadn't used the online dating site (she lives in a different town).
Some profiles can be fake but I can usually sniff them out0 -
I think I am considered physically attractive never had problems dating men I wanted to get to know better, however, when I became a single mum of two young children, working full-time, with little help, I didn't the luxury in terms of time or money to go and meet single men where they might be hanging about. I have always had expectations in terms of who I wanted to date and there were few potential candidates available in my circle, all being already taken (understandably).
My husband struggled because his job is very male oriented as are his activities, and the women he met in clubs were just not the ones who interested him.
Of course, there is also the fact that people do post their best ever pictures so not always a reflection of what they look like in real life....well except for my husband who must have found the most hideous picture of himself so that it was almost a shock to see how much better looking he was in real life!0 -

I always get shocked responses when people discover that I met my partner online. In this day and age of technology, I think the dating scene is a bit behind the times!
Yup, people seem shocked that i'm so upfront about it? Why would I lie? I'm not ashamed!Current debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0 -
South, maybe a few years ago it was a bit 'out there' but nowadays it's nothing to get shocked about

I have heard a few horror stories though! Especially about the free sites!0 -
 Maintenanceman doesn't need dating websites! The very thought!
His charming and bubbly personality just radiates from him, like a lovely summer scent, and I'm sure homely girls with big behinds regularly throw themselves at him wherever he goes. I'd bet my walnut cake on it.0 -
I met my partner on an online dating site. After chatting for a few weeks we discovered that we worked for the same employer. He looked me up and sure enough there I was on the staff list. Then he asked me out. After being together a while I asked him why he had asked me out. Hoping he would pay me a compliment about my looks. He just said, well I knew to work for ********* you had to be CRB checked!!!! Guess it didn't matter how attractive I was then. Lol.
We are due to get married in March 2014.0 -

I think being in London people are much more blase about it too. Meeting your future partner whilst !!!!ed is more socially acceptable which I think is funny (nothing wrong with doing that has just never worked for me!).
And i've heard horror stories too and had some really dodgy messages but mainly they've been decent people. And the odd ones were fun in their own way (I didn't meet any luckily).Current debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0 -
Hello all,
I came to this forum a couple if months ago because I wanted to know which online dating website to try.
After using match and eharmony, I was told about freedating.co.uk
I was on it for about a week in which time I was bombarded with sleazy emails from guys throwing their mobile numbers at me (to which I replied to none).
Out of the blue, this guy emails me. Originally I thought he lived too far away (60 miles in fact). He was the only person who wrote me an email in good proper English! I then decided to make contact!
So glad I did!
We emailed for a few weeks, then spoke on the phone, had 3 brilliant dates (4th due tomorrow). We have lots in common, job, home life, music, tv.
I was completely dubious about this online dating stuff! I now have found a true gentlement! You do have to sift through them and let them come to you though but well worth it!0 -
