  • I do not know the ins and outs of ebay as I am a very basic user but just had a second look at the seller, wouldn't have thought they were a business going on the 96 items they have sold in a YEAR,

I think I may have sold more items in the last year but I am only trying to sell items I no longer need or use.

Would be interested to know what you think makes them a business?

Do you think that they just happen to have a vast amount of brand new wool knocking about in the house?

They are buying to sell, that makes them a business.

Surely 12 x 9 x 6 will just fit inside the new dimensions? I don't have any to actually measure the external, but I reckon they'll just about work...Item no 261303486605 is 24.8p a box

They look good and an extra inch will give me a bit more leeway.

Business selling has nothing at all to do with volume, the definition is quite clear. If you buy with an intention to resell then you are a business. You can sell 1000 items from your house if you are downsizing and HMRC wouldn't care (you might get flagged up by eBay but that can't be avoided). However, buy a batch of boxes to sell or a batch of knitting wool and you are a business.

If a seller is dishonest to mislead like that then I don't trust them to deal with me properly.

Funny you should ask that, at one point quite a few years back before anyone had even heard of ebay, I did in fact have a huge amount of brand new wool knocking about in the house, and although its doubtful this seller had a shop that closed, there is always the possibility!!!!!!

They are buying to sell, that makes them a business.

    Thanks for explaining the difference[/QUOTE
Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay

Even selling stock from a previous business would count as business selling.

I'm another with wool / yarn. I have 214 cones of wool / and or synthetic yarn left over from a project my late husband was involved with. It was all donated to his and no one wants it back - believe me I tried to send it back! Eventually I shall list it.

My husband collected all sorts and I tend to list all the same type of items at once so buyers can select and combine postage. Ebay has asked me to verify that I am not a business several times.

  • I just made a useful discovery: wine boxes which I can get free from my local supermarket are approximately 15 x 23 x 31cm (external dimensions).
  • I wonder how many people have been overcharged at the Post Office today. I had to squash some knitting wool (no, I’m not the person mentioned above!) into a box today to keep within the new small parcel dimensions, but the PO lady wanted to charge me for a medium parcel. I told her about the changes and she had no idea about the new measuring box and had to ask a Manager. In the end it was found “out the back”. She’s a nice lady and I felt for her, but I wonder how many other PO staff don’t know about this and are happily carrying on as before.
  • My local postmaster was using a measuring tape today to check that my parcel was within the new limits, so I presume the box template thingy hasn't arrived yet.

Just need to double check the sizes when I go back to the office as I'm working from memory, size wise.

27p a box is more like it.

Edit; just found cheaper ones..strangely I couldn't find any of these yesterday!!

Could you send me the link to the cheaper ones please
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D
