Got Parking Eye ticket at Aldi

Well, not me, my 80 year-old mum.
I said ignore it, but naturally she's scared and wants to pay the £40 within 28 days.
I understand she was 11 mins over the 1.5 hours allowed, and had shopped in Aldi, but was mainly getting her hair done. She was advised by the local council to park there because the car park she normally uses is closed for some reason.

Martin says: These supposed fines are the new Wild West - cowboys at supermarkets or housing estates - they're often unenforceable...they have no power to fine.

Looking on here, there so much information and the overwhelming message is dont pay, fight it. Thats where it gets confusing. It unclear how to approach this without wading through dozens of posts, and for the sake of £40 some people have better things to do.

OK, so how do I fight it, in clear easy steps? I know there are sticky posts, but the information is overwhelming.

My view is pay them a token payment that way you have paid something, say £1/m for each min over. Offer to pay in installments as she is a pensioner.

Dont even go there with the Facebook thing. She wont understand it, hell, I'm not even on Facebook.

I'll deal with the Facebook bit for you and your mum !

Firstly DO NOT IGNORE - it could end up in court if you do that. I'd suggest YOU write to Parking Eye with an appeal around your mum shopping at Aldi - do it on her behalf.

You should also go back and demand that the store cancel the ticket.

They will reject it but give you a POPLA code. When that comes bounce this post - hell I'll write the POPLA appeal myself for your mum if necessary !

While paying is a valid option it is giving into a bunch of con artists !

You could spend most of that queuing at the tills, hope your mum has learnt to recognise the parking eye signs and makes damned sure she does not park her car in any establishment that use Parking Eye.
If Aldi want these nasty vicious litigious shammers targeting its customers then it is making it very clear indeed, they do not want your mums custom.
Make sure she understands this, or she is going to need a lot of £40's

You will have to fight this for her, she has no chance against these vicious people, once they cotton on she is elderly they will go straight for her throat.

Shame On Aldi getting in to bed with these, you deserve all you will get and soon realise why other supermarkets were happy to pay millions to get rid of Parking Eye.
    Be happy...;)

I would rather take the risk in an ALDI car park as opposed to overstaying in a council car park. It's much easier to win against ParkingEye than win against council.

Ignoring is an option but if ParkingEye decide to take you to court the letter writing and the potential day off to attend court could cost you a lot more time time than a quick letter now. Just write a few lines saying that you spent too much time shopping (don't mention that she wasn't actually shopping at ALDI) and ask for the parking charge to be withdrawn. The letter does not have to be very long.

Most Parking Eye charges are for overstaying in a free car park that has been provided by a store as a service to lure in customers in preference to them going to another store. This is not true of council car parks.

ParkingEye, with their community spirit hat on (:rotfl:) are known to cancel PCNs if your Mum has her receipt for shopping that day (or bank/cc statement). Any of these - send a copy to PE (redacted if a bank/cc statement) with a covering letter.

As you Mum is elderly there are considerations and adjustments that Aldi and PE have to make under the Equality Act 2010, so you will need to reference this in your letter (or appeal if no receipts) - but please wait for Coupon-mad to come on later today/this evening with some very wise words to add to it.

  • I see that Aldi's groupie , Elizabeth, is quite happy for this old lady to pay the £40.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Wouldn't it be poetic justice if our Liz copped a PE ticket. Whilst she thinks she can waltz around the store in less than 90 minutes and this is totally within her control, let's see what a flat battery, tyre puncture or general engine failure on the car park does for her :)

I wonder if she has the guts to post here given she clearly reads the threads - my bet is she won't ! :rotfl:

I'm not on FB, but wonder whether anyone can tackle the 'Aldi groupie' where she talks so disparagingly about the elderly and the disabled, just exactly what does she know about the Law of the Land which is enshrined within the Equality Act 2010, and in light of this would she care to modify her comments? :)
