After a few years whether permanantly or on and off with walking aids people some people feel differently about the aesthetics.

Of course, yes i see that , my post was a bit insensitive , apologies to anyone offended

My daughter thought about painting hers with car paints but as they had to go back to the hospital she didn't do it.
We did steal a bit of her brother's memory foam mattress topper to make the handles more comfy for her though. He hasn't noticed yet and it was 3 years ago ;)

  • Lol this made me giggle!! I have foam but I will definitely make a trip to my brothers house if this fails. Haha
  • I'm on crutches at the moment aswell, on Week 11 and counting!!

I'd second the person who said you might want to pad your hand part of the crutches, mine have sheepskin pads which help a lot.

My crutches seem to spend as much of their time as possible throwing themselves on the floor, as they're not the easiest things to prop up on their own when not in use, so if you do decide to paint them, make sure the finish is fairly durable!

    Hope your Op goes well.

Not at all, difference in perspective, that's all. :)

I actually have a folding walking stick ATM, which is much better, I don't need it all the time. I quite want this

But my DH feels that he's not comfortable with me having anything that could be described as a pimp stick. :D

I spent four months on crutches a few years ago and then another couple of months on two walking sticks. To stop them rubbing my hands I wore leather gloves most of the time.

If the crutches are more of a permant thing how about treating yourself to something over than the NHS grey ones? As soon as I got onto one walking stick (which I still have to use when going any distance) I bought myself a nice patterned one. This company do a walking stick you can colour youself (or they used to anyway)- they may do the same for crutches. Switchsticks.co.uk

Also, don't forget to have a bag or hoodie ready for after the operation. I bought a couple of cheap hoodies with pouches at the front to put things in. Otherwise you cannot carry anything. I would heave myself up and go and get a book and then realise that I couldn't take the book back with me as I had no free hands.

I found the walking sticks that fit the palm of your hand much better than the plain variety as well, I had more control over what amount of weight I could put on it and found ti a bit steadier.

Cycling gloves with gel pads in them work very well with crutches. Don't think I'd paint the handles, but as others have suggested perhaps cover them with sheepskin or other lovely soft material.

Using them for 6 weeks I wouldn't bother decorating them either, but long term use, definitely

    Electronic component suppliers normally.

    Or the good old bay.

You can use a hairdryer on it, or paint stripper if your careful and dont put it too close.

    Some more ideas.

But be careful what you do - there is a patent out.

Almost mis-read the whole topic, didn't quite get what crotch decoration was:o:o

Leopard skin and a pair of furry dice on each OP?:D
On a serious note, as has been touched on, just take care that anything you do doesn't detract from their primary function, ie, to keep you off the deck. Best of luck.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
