Hi i just installed windows xp pro (sp3) on a intel celeron 1.8ghz with 2gb ram
I know its not the best machine in the world but i would have thought it should recognise the speakers without fuss?
The speakers are logitech z120 speakers (http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/support/stereo-speakers-z120?crid=409) but there doesnt appear to be any software/drivers to download or install?
Th speakers have power and are connected via usb and the 3.5mm green audio jack (into the green socket in back of pc)
Any ideas why windows isnt recogising them?
Thanks

Right click on the loudspeaker icon on the task bar and select output to headphones , the USB connection is only for power I believe on those, oh and make sure the jack plug is in the headphones socket not the mic socket4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . What USB ports does the computer have? Could they be USB 1? Maybe the speakers need USB 2 as a minimum. Have you tried other speakers to see if the 3.5 jack socket is the problem?0

did you install soundcard drivers (eg ac97) during xp reinstallation, check device manager for missing drivers/yellow question marks!!

Thanks, I checked device manager there is question marks saying "audio device on high definition audio bus" and "smb bus controller" and "video controller vga compatable"
I don't think i installed sound card drivers, i just put in the disk, made the partition and xp installed itself.0 -
You need to go to start/control panel/ device settings.
Make sure the audio drivers are setup and installed correctly, and that the audio is not muted/turned down in control panel.
If you are unsure if the speakers have ever worked plug them into a hifi or whatever the 3.5mm jackplug will fit.0 -

Thanks, there is no "device settings" in control panel (that i can see)
I tried to access the sounds and audio devices tab in control panel but it doesn't appear to be picking up any sort of sound, everything is greyed out pretty much.0 -

The speakers don't need any drivers, it's the soundcard which needs installed drivers. And that's the reason why your sound settings are greyed out.
Go to the laptop manufacturer's homepage and download and install the sound drivers for your model.0 -
and video/chipset drivers
there should be no missing drivers in device manager!!
