Royal Mail redirect my post to my ex
Comments
-
As already mentioned
What actual losses have you suffered? If your ex has used the contents of the letters to achieve an advantage then you sue her.
This is not a breach of the DPA.0 -
I didn't think you could redirect other than by surname.
So If Mrs Susan Jones does a redirect then all mail to Jones will get redirected including that addressed to Mr David Jones and any little Joneses.
It is an offence to open mail addressed to someone else if the information within is then used to the detriment of the addressee.
Postal Services Act 2000
s(3) would apply to Mrs Jones and I'd also say that s(1)a would apply to the post office if they continue to redirect Mr Jones mail once he has instructed them to stop doing so.84 Interfering with the mail: general.
(1)A person commits an offence if, without reasonable excuse, he—
(a)intentionally delays or opens a postal packet in the course of its transmission by post, or
(b)intentionally opens a mail-bag.
(2)........
(3)A person commits an offence if, intending to act to a person’s detriment and without reasonable excuse, he opens a postal packet which he knows or reasonably suspects has been incorrectly delivered to him......0 -
Who paid for the redirection? If a third party, then - as RMs customer - are entitled to a rebate or refund. If your mail is being redirected in error, then you have a right to ensure they know of the error and ensure it doesn't happen again.
Compensation would be limited to a book of 1st Class Stamps, and you would find it difficult seeking more. (Incompetence is allowed).0 -

nope its per person
admittedly it gets hard when you have mail to Mr & Mrs J Jones when its John & Joanna
However the default is to deliver to the original address0 -
TBH it sounds like it's someone who's been untrained covering the duty on the couple of occasions that it's happened, maybe a new postie. When this happens, and a complaint is made, it's usually highlighted on the redirection card that it's MRS JONES only.
Hopefully it will get sorted out soon.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -

has that changed? I *thought* I remembered about 30 years ago when I left home I couldn't get just mine done because my parents were still there0 -
I've had redirection setup a few times in the last 10 years, and I'm fairly certain it works on full names. I vaguely remember the form saying they will automatically work out all common forms of a name, so when I put my name down as Michael it would automatically match Mike and Mick etc without me needing to register each one separately.0
