Royal Mail redirect my post to my ex

Options
On 5 occasions Royal Mail have incorrectly redirected post addressed to me, to my ex-wife. Made 2 complaints, which they acknowledge.

Can I recover any costs? They refuse to pay any compensation.

  • You might be able to claim something provided that you can prove that you incurred some financial loss due to the incorrect redirection.

If no loss has occurred, why would you need compensation?

My individual post. Forgot to say, most of the letters were addressed to me, in my name and were from my solicitor. These were then redirected to my ex 30 miles away.

How do you measure the cost for breach of data protection act?

This i not breaching the DPA.

The DPA is for organisations that store personal details on a computer or manual file, which RM have not breached.

for them to redirect mail, they must have a redirect notice set by you on their system.
  • Breaching the DPA in itself doesn't entitle you to any compensation and simply redirecting your mail by mistake isn't a breech of the act.

If however your ex opened your mail and then used its contents to cause you loss then you would have a claim against her, or if the redirection caused a delay in you getting it which lead to a loss then you might have a valid claim against RM,

Or a redirection set up by the ex-wife before she moved out.

No, they applied an incorrect redirection. I know this, as letters I now have addressed to me, in my name, have a Royal Mail redirection sticker on with her redirection address on.

it will not be incorrect, either you or your ex has set up a redirect with RM to have mail redirected to her address.

She has mail redirected to her but RM are incorrectly redirecting HIS mail to her. They are redirecting the incorrect letters

EDIT: At least I assume that's what happening.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.
