Well in this case the description was a right turn lane, so it's a bit naughty to do what was described.
That is, of course, taking the post at face value. If it's a combo right turn and straight ahead lane, then the manoeuvre is legit, but on your head be it if you screw it up.
I don't hang about at a green light, and have caught out more than a few barry types in this exact situation. They have mistakenly assumed that a woman in a 20 year old barge isn't going to put her foot down, or have a turbo-I6 under the bonnet.0

Nor an 80 year old O/F in his Golf.

Yeah, pushing past in the right turn lane is not on there
The one I posted at the top of the page, the move is legit0

            Ah, OK. I misunderstood. Sorry . .
Seriously? That seems an extremely tentative approach to merging - giving up before you've even tried. I know people get a bit fighty sometimes and you need to be seeking co-operation and then, if that is not forthcoming, safety, but if you approached the merge with more purpose and confidence looking for that co-operation from those outside you I bet you would find it more forthcoming than you fear.
Don't worry about what the driver behind is doing. It's up to them to plan their own merge. Do beware though if you are holding back for what you feel is a safe merging opportunity, the driver behind may decide to move out to pass you. If that happens it's almost certainly going to be best to let them past - trying to merge ahead of them would almost certainly look confrontational.
Boggles, I don't think this guy has any "fear", but is deliberately trying to aggravate the driver behind him, the one he refers to as an "idiot".1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
 2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
 3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0

Whatever the situation, using your vehicle to force your perception of the rules of the road on other drivers can only end in tears (yours) eventually.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Ah, well... if that's true that would make portly1 a bit of a **** then. And a fairly ineffective one at that I'd have thought. Can't imagine anyone is going to bother waiting behind him for the length of time it takes a dozen or so cars to pass while he's sat in the middle of the junction like a lemon - particularly not if the driver behind him really is an impatient idiot.
I imagine if he ever tried this for real he'd be a little disappointed by the outcome. Trying to wind someone up by blocking their way would be appalling behaviour at the best of times. But trying to do it at a spot where there is a lane available for the target of your childish posturing to simply drive around you and be on their way would take a special kind of halfwit.0

I sincerely hope that I never encounter you on any road in any circumstances. No of course I would move off on green. If an idiot was behind me I would be waiting to merge with the other traffic coming up on my offside. If that meant that I had to sit in the middle of the junction until the last car passed on my right so that I could tuck in behind him I would, leaving the guy behind either still stuck behind me (and now at the end of a long queue of traffic) or put him in the position of being in the middle of the road after the lights had turned red and traffic was starting to come from another direction (hopefully there would be a 'yellow box' and a bobby watching him blocking traffic from elsewhere!
Me, what did I do wrong - it just wasn't safe for two cars side by side to battle for one lane - so I waited until everyone behind me had passed by.
That bobby would probably nick you and not the driver behind you. :rotfl:
Almost all drivers know how to properly merge from two lanes into one and your method is not correct. It is stupid and dangerous.
Have you considered surrendering your driving license? 0 0

Are you really proud to admit that you would intentionally drive in such a way that you would purposely ensure that another vehicle was left in the way of oncoming traffic?
With that one sentence you have neatly summed up why so many people who are in possession of a driving licence should have it revoked before they end up causing an accident that kills someone.0

I like it!!! Just hold your ground and he had no where else to go except the bollard!! However I have had them do this to me and then 'squeeze' me off the road onto the pavement.0
