Would you move from a detached to a townhouse

Well guys we went to see a huge 1900 square foot mid townhouse (our current detached house is 1000) square feet.

The question is would u move from a detached.

I'm concerned about getting bad neighbours but couldn't afford a house of this size detached. Its a newer house but my family are saying its a big change to having neighbours again. The house is only 10 years old and we liked it. I'm concerned about neighbours too but keep thinking abt it. Here is a link below of the house in question

It doesn't have a good energy rating. I would not go back from a detached to having neighbors. I had an aunt who lived in a townhouse and her heating bills were high even though the house felt cold.

Personally I wouldn't. I like living in a detached house here I don't have to worry about the neighbours (either them or us making too much noise). I would definitely not go for something with a garage attached as you may have lovely neighbours but what if for example they had a motorbike which they rode to work at 6am each day!

Also, I thought town houses were the 3 story new builds, IMO this looks like a terraced house, but just renamed (could be wrong as it was hard to tell from the picture)

We live in a townhouse, 4 bedroom, 3 doubles. Looks a bit like that you have pictured

For families, i think theyre ideal, loads of space, 3 floors, which allows for you to have peace and quiet when needed, for example I can work in the kitchen whilst the wife is up in the lounge, and the kids are on the top floor in their rooms. We have 3 bathrooms, well a bathroom, an en suite and a toilet downstairs, which also helps. Ours is about 9 years old

Our block has a mix of families and couples occupying them. It can be awkward at times, eg our neighbours next door but one have a baby, and you can hear it crying pretty clearly.
  • depends on how "detached" you are,
I have seen many detached property with no more than a couple of feet between the houses
have you got close neighbours now ?
if not I would suspect it might take a while to get used to but if the house is right for you and your family then go for it ,

I think its ok, love the bathroom and the roll top bath!! Just needs a bit of personalisation inside, redecorating. But then I prefer modern homes, we have just bought a 10 year old terraced two bed home ourselves

We previously lived in a detached home and now we obviously have neighbours both sides and its not that much different. We dont really hear them through the walls, and its nice to have neighbours tbh :) Helps that ours are friendly of course! What made you start looking for a new home in the first place?

If you want a detached, this is very similar but 10k less and detached? No idea about areas and stuff so you may have already seen it. Although not sure its as big as the 1900 square foot one!

All I can suggest is view or just drive there at various different times of the day to get a feel of the neighbourhood/neighbours/traffic etc and see if you still like it then.

Edited to say as above, the energy rating could be improved. Im surprised at what its been rated at considering its a fairly 'new build'

All depends on what you want from your house. As an example, I want to play loud music via my HiFi systems, or on a grand piano and a selection of woodwinds (not all at the same time), none of which pursuits are really compatible with having neighbours through the wall, so I'm in a detached house.

You may well find your neighbours in the adjacent townhouses want to do the same, but they haven't made the move to detached yet.

We arent really that close to our neighbours, our house is abt 50 years old.

You guys are confirming what I was thinking

In England, townhouse tends to mean three storeys + (or a house in the centre of town). I'm presuming you mean terrace? Not sure on Northern Irish terminology, but just wanted to clarify.

Would be nice to have a detached house, and it's what most people would see as an onward move from a terrace. It can work vice versa in period properties, there are some fabulous Victorian terraced houses on several levels which are highly desirable, but I'm not sure I'd make the move you're considering to that house (but then we haven't seen your current house!).

It is basically a terraced house but the agents round here call them townhouses, just a fancy name for it. My house was sale agreed before we even put it on the market so can't show you it, but its basically a 3 bed bedroom, and 2 reception room, all quite small rooms
