how would you cope (financially) alone?

    I'm female - I've always been alone.

It's not easy affording anything, so I mostly do nothing except sit home alone. I can go weeks/months without speaking to anybody... but it costs money to leave the house.

How do you manage to not speak to anybody for months? Do you not work, or buy food?

    I've been Money Tipped!
I am female and dependant on my husband for income and often, ATM, for organisation. (We've just had a meeting with our accountant where I was reminded how much a tighter ship I run on a budget than him, but he is better at sorting out the practicalities of paper work ...interfacing with government bodies for our small business and sorting through a to do list if I make one....(primarily because of stamina and health).

However, his employer and his own life endurance means I would be solvent and out house paid off and a some money in the bank if anything happened to him. I run a tight, tight ship alone, and have fewer spending requirements. There is no doubt life would be less fun and less comfortable, but it would be financially stable, if not luxurious I think. I would certainly have to make choices I wouldn't make now, like selling our house (there is no way I could practically cope here alone, too much physical work).

Pastures new is self employed in a very isolated way and does live a very quiet existence. (I have met her in real life and count her as a friend.). She has A particular condition s and feels she finds it hard to relate. She is however very popular. And she is kind, though that sentiments don't always come over in how she types until you have communicated with her for a long time. :).

Because of the social issues with her condition I can quite see how speaking in situations like a busy supermarket might be minimal.

Edit to remove name of condition...not my place:D

Ahh. I'm intrigued. I've got a vision of a woman living off the land on a remote Scottish island.

I'd be stuffed if I'm honest. If we divorced he could take half of my house. If he died I doubt if I could afford to maintain it.

I am also reliant on another person financially and have no income of my own. I've also got some health issues that would make it hard to find work, even if there were any jobs around here that paid enough to live on!

I have no property, no savings, no recent work experience, no references, nothing! So yes I'd be up whatsit creek without a paddle. I think if it came to it I'd quite like the option of working self-employed, as PasturesNew is doing.

It's great to see so many people ARE confident they'd cope, though and were savvy and took out income insurance, etc.
  • Like Toto I'd be ok (financially) if bereaved due to death in service benefits and pensions. If we split up I'd be up the creek; he owns the house outright and we're not married....

    I've not voted!
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

I don't work. Buying food you go in, pick up some packets/tins, shove it onto the self-serve, blip it through, pack, leave, drive home.

It's not all plain sailing; this year the !!!!!!'s hit the fan for most people worldwide in what I do. I work 16-20 hours/day, 7 days/week trying to squeak my income up .... it's been as low as £2/day sometimes. Currently having some small short-term wins though, but still only earning half what I need to pay rent/bills.

Er ... thanks..... trouble is, with "real people" you don't get all that much time for them to discover it...... I get their back up within 3 sentences most of the time :)

I think I'd rather do that though than work effectively for nothing, in a soul destroying job, for an employer.

I can (and do) live on very small amounts of money.
