Virgin media price rise - should i request them to reduce or cancel the contract

All,
I recently received price rise letter from virgin media broadband services. They are increasing 2.50 pounds to the existing bill. I am paying around 22.50 pounds per month for 30 MBPS service, well i felt service not worth for 25 pounds.
I have 2 options :
1. Argue with virgin to reduce the bill.
I dont mind staying with virgin if they can reduce the price below 22.50 - as i use internet only for checking emails. How can i request virgin to reduce the money ?
2.Cancel contract and switch
Can someone tell within how many days can i cancel the contract after receiving the letter ?
In the conditions its mentioned as 30 days - but the letter didn't have the letter post/printed date. It just says august 2013 at the top corner. Legally this is wrong - they should print the date else how the customer will count the number of days ?
how can switch to other provider . I think the only broad band provider without phone is virgin . Can i switch to sky ?
Please share your thoughts - it will be very helpful to me.
Thanks

Just call retenions, the rep may make an offer depending on what services are available to you.
PS there is a seperate thread on the topic.0 -
Check my post in https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1021885
I'm now paying £22.50 for 60Mbps with no increase to come. I have seen a claim by someone on TBB that they are paying less than £20 for 120Mbps but the poster concerned seems to be full of BS to me. I think not only should you be paying far less, you should be downgrading your service substantially.
30Mb is VM's lowest speed on cable nowadays. Apart from some existing customers on 20Mb (at the same price) there is nothing to downgrade too.
Personally I gave VM notice because of this price increase and am going to TT, less than £10 a month for the first year after discounts / Quidco etc for 12Mb BB and evening / weekend phone calls, goes up to £20 a month after the first year, so might jump ship then if they don't offer a good deal. But according to my sister whose been with them for about four years now, she negotiates with TT every year and gets a discount.0 -

Definitely cheaper deals available elsewhere for the OP, particularly because he doesn't need "Superfast Broadband" simply to check E-Mails!0 -
Although it's worth noting that you probably won't get 30MB during evenings, as they throttle the service. I was sold 60MB, but currently look at around 15MB in the evenings.
If you have the option, I'd use someone else. I bought my mum plusnet, for a fraction of that price, home phone and broadband (no TV)Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -

No doubt at the same time you were paying £1000+ for a 486 based machine.
Things move on and technology prices tumble. Still doesn't mean you shouldn't argue your corner to get lower prices.0 -
