Holiday Plans

Hi
Not sure if this is the right forum or not, but I suppose it is more about relationships.
There are 6 of us going on holiday end of September. One of our group took it upon themselves to book a VIP table at a club without consulting the others. This is at a cost of a minimum spend of 500euros between the group.
Unfortunately, I earn the least and had not expected or factored in this cost to the holiday. The rest of the group are going to do this though at a cost of 100euros each (since the group is now reduced to 5).
We originally had plans to go clubbing at night. Their intention is to set off at 12pm and return to me at 10pm. However, I am pretty sure that once the drink is flowing with them that this will not happen (has happened before in the UK).
I have already had to change plans to accommodate others for this holiday (I've just returned from one holiday abroad so would have preferred a different date, but went along with the majority no questions asked).
I can't help feeling that it's a bit unfair. Almost 100euros is a lot of money (especially when it won't even last the whole 9hrs they plan to be there, so I really can't afford to do this and other activities planned for the holiday) and if it had been me, I would have consulted the group. And if one person was going to be left out, I wouldn't then book it.
What are other people's opinions? Would you book something like this without consulting everyone?

Your choices appear to be :-
Have an early night that day?
Stump up the money for the Day..
Hope they turn up at 10pm instead..
The majority appear to have agreed with the booking.. you cant say 'went with the majority decision' and then 'backout if one person was going to be left out'...0 -
Yes, you're right OP - 100 euros is too much to be expected to pay. The holiday organiser should have checked with everyone first that it was ok before booking- not your fault.
this is the difficulty when the ball is taken out of your court.0 -
100 EUR for days drinking is prob about right for trip out on 18/30 holiday in Ibiza etc...
By how much are you the lowest earner there? Should the others be expected to lessen there holiday experience to accomodate your needs?0 -
I am the lowest earner by about £10k a year.
When I said 'went along with the majority', that was with regards to the date of the holiday, not anything else.
Oh well, a split decision so far on here.0 -
Not just the cost, but the fact that a group member booked this without consulting with everyone first. I understand that you probably don't want to cause a fuss and upset your friends.
I would take control of the next holiday yourself.0 -
Personally I wouldn't be happy having to cough up £xx minimum without being asked first.
If you really can't afford it, then pull out. There's already 1 pulled out - maybe money is the reason for them too?Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0 -

No I wouldnt have. Id have asked everyone if they could afford it.
Id probably be going on an all inclusive holiday as well and I have done, because for me, that was the best option, because I dont have tons of spare cash to pay for meals and drinks once I get anywhere.
I wouldnt be pressured to go, nor would I be pressured to go on trips you cant afford either, you'll see plenty of them when you are away, just do what you can afford and opt out of what you cant afford.0 -
You agreed to go on the holiday, knowing you couldn't afford it, it's unfair to expect everyone else to do less on their holiday to accommodate you.
I'm assuming you're the only one not happy with the clubbing arrangements of €100 as everyone else is going? Do you think everyone else should not go because you can't afford it? I don't. You're in the minority, either find more spending money or gracefully bale out of activities you can't afford, but don't ruin everyone else's holiday.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I wouldn't say that I can't afford. We've done these type of holidays before.
However, VIP tables has never been booked or even mentioned before. It is a new member of our group who took it upon themselves to book VIP. This person is also the highest earner of the group. Others have mentioned not being particularly happy, however the deposit has been paid and the booker will lose this money if the VIP table is not used.0 -

You changing your plans to accomodate their date is your choice, there were 6 of you going and various dates would have been discussed until finally 6 now 5 could all agree and come up with a date, a holiday with 6 now 5 is always going to be the majority vote, not your dates.
The VIP table sounds exciting and fun and something that everyone would look forward to, special and a talking point of the fantastic holiday you all had, expensive but different.
An all inclusive holiday would have suited better?0
