I know that at certain times of the year some solicitors offer a free will service. Does anyone know when that is ?

Also can you add a codicil to a will free of charge also ?

the one I have known about is will aid

Would a free will service include a Trust over the property to allow our daughter to live in our house if she needed to after our deaths? We have an earlier will we made years ago but we need it to include this Trust and our solicitor has quoted £345 + VAT to create new wills :eek:

If your in a union at work the union normally offer a free will writing service.

In these days of computerisation you might as well print out the document with the extra clause added. Presumably it already starts "I revoke...." and get it signed and witnessed.

What do you mean by "print out the document". The original will was drawn up by a solicitor and I received one copy, the original being held at the solicitors office. I did ring up my solicitor who stated that I could just add the wording I wanted (a codicil) but it wouldn't stand up in a court of law if contested. I needed instead to set up a Trust and this would involve new wills being made which was expensive, which is why I asked before finding this out. Now I need to know if I can get new wills set up free of charge when the "free will writing weeks come up shortly".

When we wrote our wills with the solicitor we referred specifically to a codicil which would be kept with the copy that we hold and also given to our executors if we so wish. That way, we can update the codicil as necessary and as things change. It's for chattels rather than monetary gifts though, so I assume that's what you want yours for?

We want to ensure our house is not sold without our daughter's agreement. There are reasons for this which I won't go into but suffice it to say that the solicitor said a codicil would not stop the house being sold even without her permission if we didn't have the provision set into a Trust Deed to safeguard her interests.
