It was a bit like the Argos book...... My Dad did the "got to give stamps" thing when running out of petrol too.
My parents also collected Embassy vouchers from cigerette packets too.

Our local Green Shield shop is now a Wetherspoons.

My Mum got my first 'walkie talkie' doll with Embassy vouchers. She made out of it too as she only had enough vouchers for the small one but the assistant gave her the big one by mistake. :rotfl:

I still have it in my loft. My daughter didn't like it as it was too scary. :D

If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

I recall my mother exchanging some of her stamps for a Kenwood Chef food mixer. It's still going strong almost 40 years later!

My brother and I got a pair of rollerskates each, paid for with Green Shield stamps. :)

I remember the Co-op stamps were blue.

I can't remember what we had for the books. I recall pink shield stamps and I also recall a song that had the words " She's got a big fat tongue from licking and sticking those trading stamps all day" but don't know who sang it. ( sounds a bit Lonnie Donegan-ish)

They were good if you were employed as a long distance driver. Filled up the fuel tank almost every day at petrol stations and collected the stamps all without spending your own money - your employer paid the fuel bill.

Employers liked it as well. If the driver was already getting something for nothing he would be less inclined to fiddle his fuel claims.
  • Working in Tesco in the 70's and double stamp night on a Thursday which was always packed. I still have a moulinex hand blender, a tefal mini food processor with all the bits and a zippo lighter although we no longer smoke it is still very useful to have.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
