scammed by Barclays? ?!

in Credit cards
I applied for a bank loan with Barclays just under a year ago for 2500, was declined over the phone so the girl suggested applying for a "basic" credit card. I was not told anything about the credit card over the phone other than being advised to use it to build up my credit rating. I was never given anything to sign either. When I received my "basic" credit card it was apparent it wasn't basic at all! I had been given a 2000 limit (which seemed huge for a first credit card and considering my loan for only 500 more than that got declined! ) I eventually looked up the criteria for this credit card which stated you must be 21+ and earning 20, 000 per year, I was neither when I was given it! Is there there anything I can do? Thinking about it now the girl on the phone was clearly looking for the highest possible commission and not the best option for me! I dont know who to go to about this! Would appreciate any advice and would love to hear from anyone who has experienced anything similar.. thanks in advance!

No scam here.
You accepted it, you borrowed it, you should pay it back.

Whilst you may have a case to have this application looked at in terms of staff disciplinary - If you spent on the card then you have to pay it back.0

You didn't mention it in your post, but presumably you have maxed out this credit card?0
-
So you asked for a loan of £2,500 and are saying a credit card with a £2,000 limit was too much for you?0

Send in a complaint. The phone call would have been recorded, as will any forms that you have signed. They'll listen to the call and see if she really was just looking for the highest possible commission or just trying to help.0 -
OP doesn't actually say which card he received and is a first time poster. Enough said IMO.0

NO I am not saying 2000 was too much and actually NO I have not maxed the card! I was genuinely worried and looking for advice and was under the impression that this forum was the place to get it.. apparently some people are on here to judge without reason and get on their high horses! Thank you to the people who responded with genuine advice!0

In that case I don't understand what you were asking. If, upon receiving the card, you decided it wasn't the best thing for you, you should have asked them to close the account.
What is it you actually want to accomplish?0 -
