scammed by Barclays? ?!

If you failed the basic credit worthiness test then a suggestion that a route to establish and build up your position seems reasonable ..... a direction for you to decide upon.
At the end of the day, why did you want the borrowing .... to convert it into/earn more money or to have something you could have saved for .... before buying!0 -
NO I am not saying 2000 was too much and actually NO I have not maxed the card! I was genuinely worried and looking for advice and was under the impression that this forum was the place to get it.. apparently some people are on here to judge without reason and get on their high horses! Thank you to the people who responded with genuine advice!
In that case, I do apologise. We see day in, day out people having been given a credit limit, maxed it out, and then attempting to wriggle out of it.
IMO, Barclays have suggested the most suitable way to build a credit profile, and I feel that they've done the job in a fair manner, based on your circumstances.
A Credit card is a revolving credit facility, where a loan isn't, which means that the affordability criteria is very different.

Ok, so what exactly are you saying? It's not very clear.NO I am not saying 2000 was too much
1. What are you worried about?and actually NO I have not maxed the card! I was genuinely worried and looking for advice and was under the impression that this forum was the place to get it..
2. What advice would you like?
I'm judging nothing. You've asked for credit in one form. This wasn't possible but the bank employee identified an alternative way for you to access credit.apparently some people are on here to judge without reason and get on their high horses!
You say you weren't told anything about the credit card over the phone, yet you have chosen to use it. So I assume you read the glossy brochure that came with it - did you?
You say you don't think you met the criteria for the credit card. But criteria can be different based on channel of application.
You say you didn't sign anything. But you presumably gave verbal agreement over the phone and you certainly implied acceptance of the terms and conditions by using the credit card.
So if you open up a bit and explain what you're trying to achieve, it will help others to provide a reply.
But if you're just expecting help in formulating a complaint with the expectation of getting part or all of your debt written off you're not going to achieve that outcome.
I can't see the scam you refer to in the title.0 -

Not if you shout scam when you haven't been scammed!
When something is your own fault but rather than acknowledging that and blaming a company and even having the cheek to use the word scam to cover up your own errors then your probably not get the response you'll be looking for.
A bit of advice, never ever use the word scam when in fact you just didn't bother to read something!0 -
It seems to me that some contributors have been rather unfair to the OP and have jumped to wrong conclusions. No it isn't a scam as the OP doesn't appear to have lost any money but it is possible that he should not have been offered the card.
OP: you could use the card to spend small amounts within your budget and pay it off in full each month . That would help to build up your credit rating and you may be able to get a loan at a later date. Why did you need the loan to start with ? I never take out loans myself but prefer to save the money first .0 -
I love the title that includes the word scam first thing in the morning.
Always an interesting read and yet to find one where it actually was a scam.

I have no idea why everyone is jumping to the conclusion that I am looking for compo or that I have spent money I couldn't afford and am back tracking to clear it! I've actually paid my debt off so thanks for the "concern" but its unneeded! I was wondering if anyone had had similar experience with the not meeting the criteria part of it and wondering whether to let Barclays know so it didn't happen again! People once again on their high horses saying i should have saved instead of lending, i believe thats my choice based on my personal situation and dont believe i should be criticised especially since, as I said, i paid off my debt in full! As for using the word 'scam', I was unaware that this was such an offensive word. As has been pointed out, I'm a first time poster so I dont think its such a crime or offence to people that I used it! Again, thanks to the people giving genuine advice, to the ones who didn't and just chose to judge, get a life and stop using a forum thats supposed to be helpful to make yourselves feel superior!0

Basicly what's happen here is that the advisor has bumped the OP earnings higher that what they are. The OP is worried that this could get him into trouble.
OP has a right to be worried as if he apply for finance at another place they could compare the information on the Barcleys application and the new application and ask questions this could lead to a fraud marker on his file.
The OP has noticed that he didn't meet the criteria for the card at the time and is worried and would like some advice rather than people jumping on him.0 -
Nice trolling OP!0
