Forum redesign question - post and thanks counts

NoMay be i'm on my own or in a minority - your post/thanks count, join date mean zero zip nada zilch to me unless your name is gwinnie (everything remotely linked to her matters to me; whatever she says is the bible verse, if she is wrong, i will not
accept it) Seriously, all these counts are ok but they should not be made a big deal. The team did the right thing by lowlighting the thanks counts on each post in their last design. On the other hand, a badge is that x factor.

YesI think they should be left alone.Herman - MP for all!0

Noi think there should be a feature for options in the control panel to keep it/hide it from your view as you can hide others signture, avy etc; i like a change, any change, specially if it has often been one of those topics that keep propping up0

YesShe is asking about counts next to my post, so i will speak about what i like or don't like to be seen on my post or any options i'd like to haveAlso the post is each poster's own though and we should, imo, be offered a choice to control what is being viewed.
Rather than a veil argument you might try a data protection argument. Is it personally identifiable data about you as the data subject? Did you content to collection and disclosure and is it reasonably necessary for the task?
I'm not actually unsympathetic to the personally identifiable argument, and considered expressing a view on that and poster's control of the data displayed about them before my own initial reply, but decided that I did not think the argument had sufficient merit, and would probably be harmful if accepted, so dropped it.0 -
Thanks for all your thoughts everyone. Obviously we won't be able to please everyone, but they're good to knowCould you do with a Money Makeover?

Avatar & signature - I have these switched off in USER CP, and this is good enough.
*** There are 3 counts of posts - 2 of which are currently shown - I would like at least one to be shown but it doesn't matter which one.
1) The number of posts still on the forum (the first one shown)
2) The number of thanked posts (the second one shown)
3) The number of posts actually made (not currently shown)
Note that "2" can be larger than "1" (see left) due to posts that have been deleted after being thanked, and "3" would be the largest of all.
I am guessing that the aim is to cut down on the white space in short posts (see Andrea's post #26 above). One thing I have seen suggested some time back is to move the green/red "currently online" dot from the bottom left to just left of the username.0 -
YesI think the thanks count is used in a totally different way in the competitions forum than it is in any other forum section.
The Good:
People post competitions to up their thanks & post count. This is because they are aiming for the top level of rosette's. People NEED the thanks button on every post in the competitions section as that is how people know if they have entered a competition before or not. This is important because you can only enter once otherwise you are disqualified.
The Bad:
Because of the above people get very prissy about the competitions they usually post where in some cases people have had Pm's saying that they usually post that competition & you are stealing my thanks & post count.
It has also led to people pming other members to ask them why they have not thanked them for posting a competition which is awful.
I think the post count needs to stay because as said above you can see how active the person has been on the forum in the past.
I wish there was a different system to reward people of their hard work on the forum without it leading to arguments in the competitions forum. I have tried to think fo one but can not come up with anything at the moment
