tracing lost family

Hi so I'd like to get in touch with my nan and 3 aunties, but the problem is I only know their names and that my aunties are younger then my mum and my nan is roughly 65.
I've found an auntie on friends reunited and messaged her twice with no response.
Are there any free ways to trace them?
I've never met them but I apparently take after my nan.

Salvation Army will trace relatives for you - BUT - if they don't want contact then they wont give you any details. It is worth a try though hun.0

Thanks I'll try them.
I've never known them my nan visited me in hospital when I was born so if they don't want to know then I've not lost anything.
Thanks again.0 -
I do this sort of stuff as a sideline, but would be happy to try and help you. If you would like to send me a personal message on here with the names and any other info you have (places etc) I will happily look and see what I can find for you."Keep your dreams as clean as silver..." I think FR has been largely superseded by FB I know I have an FR account that I haven't checked for years there could be loads of messages on there that I haven't seen.
Have you looked on FB? Maybe they are married with children are their children on there?
Electoral rolls, if you know the town of residence you can access that and get an address.
Ad in the local paper?
Do you know why you have no contact? Is it due to a family issue that they would not want to revive?
Is your mother involved here? Can she not help with detail?
As a last resort you could try the TV prog Long Lost Family....
Good luck x0 -
Have you tried facebook?
When looking into my family tree I sent a few people a message based on surname and where they lived, and got a reply from relatives who then put me in touch with others (one was from the generation down saying 'oh X is my dad' (X being my father's nephew)
The message I sent was just a generic 'This may sound odd but I've been researching into my family history and my grandmother was X, her maiden name was 'yoursurname' and she was from 'yourtown' and was wondering if we could be related.'
One message was 'well I've not heard of her, but as far as I know all the 'familyname' from this town are related, my father was XX and his father was YX - I sent back a message asking if XY was born in a particular year and died in a particular year - and it was him, his grandfather was my grandmothers younger brother - we've worked out that when she had a child out of wedlock when the brother was 14 and was kicked out of the family he never knew what happened to her (she married my grandfather and had another 7 children)0 -

Can't find them on Fb.
I dont know much. Apart from their names approximate location (from 27years ago) and the place of employment of an auntie which looks to be about 5years ago according to fr.
Apparently I have no contact as my nan disowned my mom when she divorced my grandad approx 28/29 years ago as my mom wouldn't pick sides or bad mouth my granddad in court.
I know that sounds bad but my mom is known to lie and stretch the truth.
I can't ask my granddad as he has passed on and my mom is being vague.0 -
My mom also has a bad rep with my family I tried to contact my granddad's partner who he was with from before I was born till he died I knew her well but her and my mom had a big falling out and she won't respond to my fb messages or friend requests.0

You can't predict how other people will react, unfortunately. I traced my birth mother and family through FR, and have a pretty good relationship with them (BM died a few months ago). When I traced my birth father through info she gave me, I got a message back from his cousin saying they didn't want to know. The cousin did send me a later email to say he'd died though, so that's a line drawn in the sand."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Just a note on FB. If you send a message to someone you are not FB friends with, it goes into another message folder and the recipient does NOT get any notification of it's arrival. It's pure pot luck if they spot it.
Click on the message icon and you'll see 'Inbox' in bold and 'other' in light grey. 'Other' is where the message will likely end up.
I do believe you can pay to message non friends so that they receive notification.0
