Thanks for the feedback everyone!
We have come to a agreement which includes a donation by Pret to a charity of my choice :T

If the grapes were in date then they are not responsible for anything. You should be capable of noticing your food is mouldy before you've almost finished it. For goodness sake, what is the world coming to?

I agree with the OP
Why should they have to think for themselves ?
Surely the onus is on the shop to stop people from eating things that may make them illOwing on CC £00.00 :j

I placed an order for Asda groceries home delivery a little over two weeks ago. We were going on holiday in our motorhome and the order was supposed to save us a job. Everything went straight into the motorhome and fridge, it never dawned on me to check the use by dates on the four ready meals.
Wish I had, as we were all really ill after I served up two of the pasta bakes the day after. Turned out it was out of date food.
Three people pebble dashed our motorhome toilet, it was horrendous.
Asda gave me £10 compensation for three days of our break away ruined. But I was more angry that this shouldn't have happened at all; when you pay Asda to pick your order you expect food to be in-date. Lesson learned this end, let's hope Asda CS suitably dealt with the store.
Think yourself lucky then to get the level of concern you got. You say:
' I had a second email back suggesting £10 was not appropriate and that maybe I should stipulate what I thought was an appropriate level of compensation.'
They had the right attitude.
To be fair it's less about the compensation and more about stopping it happening again.0 -
given the tiny amount of grapes you get from prey they would not do any harm how come you did not taste the mould ? its an unmistakable taste surley you would have noticed it0

So the person picking your order didn't check the date on the packet, and neither did you. Excellent.
How long were these past the date when you ate them? I'd have thought the average ready meal had so many preservatives etc in it to make them ok to eat for a good few days after the so called 'safe' date, as long as they're cooked correctly.0 -
didn't you go back to the shop, and you exepted the refund? if you did, then game over, as you took the refund for the faulty food/goods
so what ever they give you is a good will gesture...Work to live= not live to work0 -

I must admit I've never heard of anyone getting food poisoning from gone-off fruit. And I've chewed on a few over-ripe plums in my time."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
