I ate moudly grapes from Pret and fell ill... now what?

A few weeks ago I purchased some lunch from Pret as you do, which included a pot of grapes.
I went back to work and was munching away and with only a few grapes left I noticed something in the corner of my eye and lo and bohold it was mould growing on the grapes!!! Upon closer inspection there was more mould on the remaining grapes - yuk!
So I immediately took the grapes and marched back to the store to demand some action. In fairness I was refunded the cost of the grapes on the spot, however I was asked to raise a further complaint on the Pret website, which I did that evening.
In the interim I fell ill with food poisoning, which wasn't entirely unexpected given the circumstances.
I had a reply back from the Pret HQ a day or two later offering a measly £10 Pret voucher for the inconvenience caused. Before I could even respond, I had a second email back suggesting £10 was not appropriate and that maybe I should stipulate what I thought was an appropriate level of compensation.
I responded to state that I thought £100 would go some way towards repairing the damage given my illness. I have since exchanged a couple of emails with Pret and it is clear they have no intention to offer me more than a £20 Pret voucher, unless I provide a medical report. Now the food poisoning wasn't life threatening so I didn't visit the doctor, but rather used my Pharmacist wife's recommended treatment in order to regain my health.
I have since politely refused Pret's offer and suggested that I will look into posting an article in my companies newsletter regarding Pret's treatment, to disuade others from shopping there.
I also stated to Pret that I would seek expert advice on my next course of action. With you my fellow MSE forum members being the 'experts', please share with me what you think I should do next?
One idea is that given I have a photo of the mouldy grapes, I should sell the photo to the local newspaper!
Thanks,

Help from the state £0.000 -
what have you actually lost out on to warrant £100? have you had time off work unpaid? if not then I think you are just being plain greedy im afraid, one of the gimme gimme gimme brigade, I suspect you might be better off slipping on one of their wet floors or over a step outside etc and suing0

Do you have a sensitive stomach? Some grapes shouldn't of done that, unless you ate an entire bag.
AKAIK, Pret get their stuff shipped in every day, stuff like fruits etc are delivered early in the morning by another company, so try telling them.0 -
Don't eat food with mould on it. HTH
I also wonder how much a paper would off for a pic of mouldy grapes. I've got a whole compost heap of rotting food - kerching!0 -
20 quid is more than reasonable. !!!! happens.
Unless you are self employed & can prove that you lost income in some way then I think you are being unreasonable & your subsequent threats to pret out of order.
Take the 20 quid good will & be happy.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

yadda yadda yadda.......
Don't suppose you stayed at the Premier Inn whilst any of this was going on?
You do seem to have a flair for the dramatic.
For the record folks...I don't believe any of this either....:rotfl:Herman - MP for all!0 -
What a load of balloney!!!! :rotfl:
The type of mould you find growing on grapes (Botrytis cinerea) doesn't even cause food poisoning. Oh, I do hope Pret tell you to go take a running jump! :rotfl:“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

You can be made sick however. (Not that I believe a word of it though.)
What Are Mycotoxins?
Mycotoxins are poisonous substances produced by certain molds found primarily in grain and nut crops, but are also known to be on celery, grape juice, apples, and other produce.Herman - MP for all!0 -
