The only issues I can see are with DPFs so maybe you've been very unlucky there...
There is no DPF on the CDTi.
Only the i-DTECs (2009 on) have the DPF's and they haven't given much trouble as Honda bolted the DPF to the side of the engine so it warms up quicker.
There is a DMF though - Dual Mass Flywheel - and these can give trouble - but not of this kind.0 -

Yeah, maybe. Even an Accord is pushing it.
When I think luxury barge, I think 5 or 7 series BMW or E class Merc. Not Japanese compact exec.
I'd take an Accord over a bottom spec BMW, Audi or Merc any day.
I had a hyundai i45 for over a month and 2,000 km, and the quality and equipment of it blew me away. I speak as an ex Audi/BMW owner.
Value for money, hondas do incredibly well. They're hardly a budget brand.0 -

Repaired it's worth £3K to £3.5K at a guess - cost me £4600 2 years ago, so probably not a good idea. Second hand engine would probably cost £800 to £1000 fitted.0 -

It's an 2004 accord. I would compare it to an A4 S-line TDi I think. 140 BHP, FWD, saloon which seats 5 in comfort, with a decent size boot.
Luxury in comparison to the Cavalier 1.8L I was using before.0 -

If you really can get an engine swap for £1k, you've not done badly. Do the clutch at the same time, and get some more value out of it.0 -

Not really being snobby, I drive a Mazda 5 after all. Just calling it as I saw it - a luxury barge is just that - a large car with leather, 6 cylinders+ and trinkets on board.
A compact exec is not in that category IMO.
As they OP has said, compared to an old Vauxhall, it seems like a luxury barge.0 -

Sorry to confuse you. I needed a 'new' car a couple of years ago, and had been using my wife's cavalier, whilst she had my 1988 mini and an MX5.
We were selling the mini, as quite frankly whilst parts were cheap, the likelyhood of finishing any journey was low, so I had the money from that. So I was looking at mk3 astra's (having had 3 in the past (all of which I managed to write off due to driving incompetence....One every 3 or 4 years), due to a vauxhall soft spot.
Then I had a small inheritance, so I thought we could add £3.5K to the budget and buy a larger diesel. I did a cost vs fuel saving benefit analysis, and decided that I spend that money, but it would take 1.5 years to pay it back. I didn't factor in, the extra cost of insurance, the extra cost of tyres, the fact that by jumping light years in technology, that repairs would be more expensive, so in reality, the payback is NOW closer to 3 years. But hey, I've have a larger more comfortable car.
Just had a call to say it's fixed. New alternator plus fitting, had come to just over £450 :eek: . It's a bitter sweet thing.
Oh and he thinks the exhaust manifold might be cracked, which will cost an arm and a leg too. :eek:0
