  • A lot of us are parents of school age kids, did you see this?

The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006
Amendments have been made to the 2006 regulations in the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013. These amendments, as described below, will come into force on 1 September 2013.
    Term-time holiday

The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006 currently allow headteachers to grant leave of absence for the purpose of a family holiday during term time in “special circumstances” of up to ten school days leave per year. Headteachers can also grant extended leave for more than ten school days in exceptional circumstances.
Amendments to the 2006 regulations remove references to family holiday and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of ten school days. The amendments make clear that headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Headteachers should determine the number of school days a child can be away from school if the leave is granted.

Yes, we have been sent a copy home of this last week, I already know of people that are ringing in sick now on odd days that they are having away, instead of booking a days holiday, I can see this is going to be the case for a lot of people from now on.

I don't think the schools will worry too much if their sickness percentage increases because on paper at least the unauthorised absence rate will be down.
I believe sickness counts as authorised absence?

(but that's just my opinion of the schools around here)

Oh Im so glad this shouldn't really affect me too much. Id never get away with telling DS2 to pretend he'd been sick if we'd been on holiday  Theres absolutely no way he'd go along with a porky :o:rotfl::rotfl:

We've got some friends taking their 3 kids on holiday for a week I think end September - same 2 schools as our kids. I'll be interested to see how they get on as they're going to miss 5 consecutive days (not just the odd day).

We're pinching a day for the next half term hols so I'll have to think of something.

    Morning everybody :)

Our postman has not arrived yet  so that limits me to downstairs - Sod's law if I went to strip beds or go and plant yet more bulbs I'd miss him with a parcel. Mind you 3 beds to do and the raining season has started ...

I don't even have a good enough reason to go out.MSL is back down to single figures yet again  Missed the coolers as we had another NSD yesterday - my OH seems very keen on these.

So I am going to eat my out of date Activia and read back hoping for a glitch.

I had a very amusing email from Nectar this morning, I could be entered into a draw for millions of nectar points just by using my nectar card when I purchased an Emmi iced coffee - fat chance unless they accept my MOC :rotfl:
