Could someone tell me if it is compulsory to have travel insurance when flying with Thomson. I know insurance is important but is it compulsory? Could they stop you flying ?

    Hi

As per the T&C on the website; nsurance:
Please Note: Adequate and valid travel insurance iscompulsory for all ourtravellers and it is a condition of accepting
your booking that you agree you will have obtained adequate and valid travel insurance for your booking by the date
    of departure

so while the answer to your question is yes you do, you do not need to take out the one offered by them. You can choose your own but remember that IF anything was to happen while you are away the cost to get you or your's back would run into 1000's.
I hope that anyone going away would not risk travelling without it just to save a few pounds

As above you don't have to buy Thomsons insurance but you do need someones insurance because if Thomson airline do a spot check at check in and ask for your insurance their airline can refuse to fly you. For example, you are taken ill mid flight and the plane has to divert to the nearest airport and you have no insurance who's paying for all the costs involved with that.

Travel insurance should be made compulsory! Just watching the horror stories on the news of people ending up in coma's or worse while they're abroad and their poor families having to appeal to the public to raise the funds needed for their treatment is enough to make me want to take it out.

It's a very small cost compared to the overall cost of a holiday, pretty sure my last policy cost me £10. I can't understand how anyone would risk going abroad uninsured for the sake of a tenner?!

Agree entirely if you can afford hundreds or thousands to go on holiday you can afford a small proportion of it for travel insurance. I'm fed up of reading about people begging for help in our local paper for donations because they or some relation is in need of help to get home and generally they are people with (some) money who just thought it wouldn't happen to them.

    Disagree
Whilst I don't travel without insurance, I'd still strongly object to being forced to do so.
We still live in a relatively free world, I'm all for people being allowed to make stupid decisions.
Besides, some people would and are prepared to accept whatever treatment is available and don't particularly have any great need (should it arise) to be repatriated.

    Insurance? - 100% yes, compulsion? - never

    Yes.

For most of Europe, I am happy to rely on my EHIC but then am confident that I could cope with the system and make the top-up payments required. Others are not and so for many people travel insurance in Europe makes sense, but I would object to being forced to get insurance when I don't feel that it is necessary.

Agree it small cost but can be many times more than £10, i suspect that was a week in europe.

Why should it be compulsory? I never travel without it but thats because I dont have thousands of pounds spare to cover an unforseen circumstance. If i did and there are many that do I may not bother

    Its a free country....just

If you die though the EHIC won't cover the cost to fly you home.
