Idle question - Am I expecting too much here?

I have two dogs, and no way would leave their mess for my cleaner (if I had one) You should deffo say something x"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

I do a bit of cleaning a couple of times a month. Hoovering, kitchen, bathroom, dusting etc. Don't get much in £££, but hey, it's a few extra £££ - and I actually work hard for it (batchelors house, go figure)
This week the dog had been poorly - to put it in a tactful way - and I must have spent 30 mins of my usual 2 hours cleaning it up and trying to remove it from inbetween the kitchen floor tiles that haven't been grouted.
I jokingly left a note asking for a bit extra as in my mind I'm supposed to be cleaning, and this was over and above what I do.
There are a lot of people who would appreciate a good cleaner so don't undersell yourself working for someone who doesn't value what you do!
If my cleaner had had to deal with this, I'd be paying her double and apologising! A lot of people would have left the house immediately and phoned the owner to say he needed to come home and sort it out himself.0 -
I'd definitely have left some kind of note: if you hadn't gone in today then he'd have come back to find it. And if you hadn't left a note he might never have known what the dog had done ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

Been pondering this and wonder if I'm being unreasonable .....
I jokingly left a note asking for a bit extra as in my mind I'm supposed to be cleaning, and this was over and above what I do.
Would asking for a little more than usual be cheeky and expecting too much?
You have been a complete star, it was right that you had drawn your employers attention to it (I am asuming that they did not/would not know of this otherwise). I think you have earned over and above your normal pay and setting out politely that you would would like to be paid for deep cleaning it is reasonable.
I would happily pay.0 -
I can't believe that he didn't clean it up himself, disgusting really. Or did the dog mess happened when you were there?
If the mess was there before, I would have expected him to leave a note, to say sorry that happened, didn't have the time to clear up myself, would really appreciate if you and here's an extra ££ for it.
Considering he didn't bother, it would tell me that he is a self-centered pig and therefore it probably hasn't cross his mind that you did something extra, so might very well think your words are unacceptable.
Hopefully, it will be a case of him meaning to leave a note and forgotten as rushed and will say that he had intended to leave you a little extra anyway.
If the dog was poorly when you were there, well that's more difficult as he might question whether this was true or not. I would have left a note to say that the dog had been poorly and as a result you had to stay 1/2 hour longer than your normal hours to clean it all and leave to that to see if he would acknowledge it and offer himself a bit more cash.0 -
I would very happily pay more!
Considering it was by the back door I'm guessing that it happened after he had left for work? You deserve to be paid extra for it though, If your not then it may be worth pointing out that half hour spent cleaning up after the dog will be taken as time owing
Good luck xIt is what it is...0 -
I am a professional pet-sitter and it is part of my job to clear up dog$h1te.
However, if I was a cleaner, I would not consider it part of my job and I would have left a note like you did and expected a little extra money.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Unless when you took the job you agreed to clean up after his dog, it's not part of a cleaners duties. If he doesn't give you a bonus then I would be looking for another job.0

Honestly? I'd have turned round and left. Then called the contact number and left a message saying that the dog had severe diarrhoea which meant you couldn't come in to clean, you need to rearrange for a different time and maybe he needs to make sure the dog is ok.
I have two dogs, and I'm not squeamish about cleaning up when they're poorly, but I'd never in a million years expect somebody else to deal with it. I'm sure most dog owners wouldn't.0
