Is it worth a neg?

Hi all,

Quick jist of my story is this. I asked a seller how much for a multiple of what they were seliing and was told £40 with free P+P. Great I thought so made an offer on best offer which was duly accepted. Went to pay to find they'd loaded it with over £20 for P+P, which I queried before paying.
"Can't do free P+P as I won't make anything" was their response.

Why oh why tell me free P+P then change your mind.

Anyhow, I've paid for the item(don't want a NPB strike) and its arrived....medium parcel, signed for, for a grand total of £6.30. Its even come in the manufacturers multiple box so they can't lay on the p+p is postage and packaging lark.

I'm really annoyed, I wouldn't have minded paying the P+P cost but I know when someone's pulling a fast one....so....would you good folk on here give a negative? If so, how would you word it?

  • What a con!

I would contact the seller in the first instance and ask them if the addition of £20 was a mistake. Explain you received the item and can see that it only cost them £6.30 to post it as well as giving your view that you don't believe the remaining £14 is a true reflection of the packaging.

I would make them an offer (e.g. £8-£10) and ask them to refund you the difference in what you did pay on the P&P. You are also well within your rights to take it to eBay and challenge the over inflated cost (KEEP THE PACKAGING WITH THE POSTAGE PRICE ON THOUGH!) and I'd remind them of that too.

If you get nowhere, leave negative and take to eBay.

    Just my two pence :)

If the offer was for a price with free p&p, then I would have stuck to this. I'm afraid I would have taken the threat of NPB on and asked eBay to read the terms of the offer that were agreed - which were then changed by the seller, after the purchase.

I'm unsure if eBay would listen, but I'd be more willing to take the NPB than get conned out of £40, out of principle.

Just checked my paypal and they've refunded me a massive £2, its now only £12 too much for the p+p.

Don't get me wrong, if they'd quoted me £60 with free P+P i'd have still took it, its the principle of agreeing a deal and then adding extra after purchase that's got my back up

A business seller? You could request to return the item.

    I'd definitely neg.

Yes a business seller, but I don't want to return it, I just want to pay what i'd agreed with them.

In 6 years of ebaying I've never had the need to leave a neg so any input would be appreciated as to what to leave.

  • I would neg, but also try and take it to ebay.
They shouldn't have agreed to £40 in the first place! Really poor behaviour from the seller :(

Either accept that you will have to pay the massive postage cost and keep the item or return it by My Hermes or Collect Plus so it doesn't cost too much and get your money back.
Either way leave a negative saying that they added £20 postage even though it cost £6 and said free P&P. It is negatives like that the people who check feedback before buying take notice of.

So how much did you actually pay, £40 or £60?

If you dont get what you bought for the price agreed - then a negs justified.

Ive left 2 negs in 10 years, one i later retracted.

Both were for refusing to honour the sale price - although one decided to send the item after getting negged - so i removed it.

    Hi,

    Paid £61 eventually, that's £40 for the item and £21 p+p(yes £21) but then got £2 refund

That's exactly my thought, had they told me £61 with free p+p I would have still been happy to pay(still a bargain). The fact I was told £40 with free p+p, purchased then hit with £21 postage with actual cost of £6.30 is what's riled me.

I've sent a message stating I think the p+p is excessive, but stopped short of asking for a refund to give them the opportunity to redeem themselves. I'll give them a day then if I've heard nothing then a neg it is.
