Resusable nappies question...

  • I would definately recommend trying out a few different brands before making a decision. You'll often find that what you prefer during ther day is a nice easy to use nappy, whereas at night you may need more absorbancy. I'd get more advice, narrow things down and try a few. Some councils offer cashback schemes or trial nappy kits too so it's worth getting in touch with your local council and see what they offer. Personally I had about 5 different brands in my stash.
Good luck - it can be a bit overwhelming at first but once you've found a few brands you're happy you'll be glad you did it - and it'll save you a packet!
  • Thanks for all the advice. I've picked up a fair few bargains on ebay now, and am becoming mildly addicted to bidding on nappies...how times have changed! Have picked up a couple each of Tots Bots, Little Lamb and Bumgenius so far.

Sadly our council is probably one of the few which provides flip all in the nappy department, but looking at what we've spent so far, we budgeted £300 for reusable nappies initially, but will be closer to spending about £140 for all new/almost new bum equipment!

One thing to remember is, if you have bought mainly birth to potty nappies (8-35lb) the weight is a guideline, and most BTP nappies won't fit a newborn even if they are 8lb or more as there shape changes :o

So might be an idea to get some size 1 disposables in just in case you get leaks with a teeny tiny baba.
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

Well done on coming in under budget Miss_Ratty :)

Remember to 'strip' your nappies before use and if you have a breastfed baby you can get away with a normal wash cycle with the antibacterial stuff.
Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck :)

  • You can't go far wrong with Bumgenius and Tots Bots nappies. They're both great brands, but I'd agree that they can be a bit big on tiny newborns so have some disposables around for the first few weeks.
  • I have a stash of nearly new totsbots ready for the off! However, I too have started to collect a few packets of size 1 and 2 nappies, not only because of the size issue, but to give me a chance to get over the shock of changing nappies! Never ever changed a nappy in my life, and think it may be a bit icky! ;)
