I always think its a bit petty to ask for extra money for things left behind in the house. If the vendor thought the item was that wonderful then you'd think they'd take it with them. Things like carpets, curtains and especially blinds are unlikely to fit into their new house, aren't they? Although I do understand that conservatory blinds can be expensive, but the vendor should look at it as though these items are part of the house - part of the deal, and should concentrate on getting a price for the house that they're happy with.
However I can see why people come to these kind of arrangements to avoid stamp duty - makes sense then.

I'd say 300 TOPS and only if you really want the items. If they're that kind of people though, and you say no, be prepared for them to remove the lightbulbs when they leave!

When I saw this thread I thought you'd be asking about stuff like washer, tumbledryer etc. The stuff you've mentioned they leave or take as they want but I wouldn't expect to be charged for that sort of stuff if they left it. So my estimate is £0

Thanks everybody. Well the news you all want to hear is that they've asked for ONE THOUSAND pounds for all of the above.

Now we don't mind contributing towards the fitted blinds and bedroom curtains but more for a convenience thing oppose to actually wishing to keep them.

We are leaving all curtains and recently made to measure blinds for our buyer so I was somewhat bemused with the £1,000 asking price.

I think you all know what my return letter will say :D

Im affraid i would say "no thankyou" they obviously dont want them so i would let them go to the trouble of removing everything - without causing damage to the decor and then let them see how much they can sell them for!!!;)
with ebay etc you can buy curtain poles, light fittings etc brand new cheaply enough..i know as i have 2 chandaliers a stunning red crystal light fitting for the dining room and 4 gold coloured curtain poles..that i now cant use for 5 years:mad: - long story:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: if i remember correctly the poles were about £40 for 4 inc postageand extend from 125-215cm....so you may as well get new...

Chancers! I'd play them right back tell them you want it included in the asking price!

or Agree to the £1000 then drop your offer by the same amount just before exchange

Unbelievable I've just left the same behind as they go with the house and would be no use in the new one and worth very little on ebay!

It does seem silly doesn't it. Like I said though I don't mind contributing for something that I like and would be convenient for me to have. However the things in question are just general items that in my opinion are usually left anyway OR offered for a reasonable sum.

If anything it riled me a little bit and I had to ask myself the question do I still want the house. The answer to that though was yes so I intend to counter offer with a much much reduced offer. Hopefully they'll see sense.
