Hi
I hope someone can help me here as i am not very technical
is it possible to get internet for the car??
my 3 kids use tablets etc when we go on long journeys but we have to download anything they want to watch before we go and it takes a while
just thought if my car had internet that they could connect to it might make things easier !!
TIA x:beer:

Mobile broadband dongle with wifi.
I am pretty sure you can get them, not sure how good they are though.
Will be much slower than the kids are used to at home and might not be worth the effort.0 -
I have thought of doing this too, ueing the car as a mobile hotspot, even wiring it in to the car permanantly.
however the poor state of the mobile signal in this country, especially on the roads put me off, so i havent bothered, perhaps 4g will change that, but im not holding my breath0 -
If you have a smartphone and a data plan that permits "tethering", you can use your phone to create a wifi hotspot. Make sure you have a car charger for it though, as it drains the battery pretty fast.
It can work very well when you get a good signal, although as mentioned above, the mobile networks in this country are very patchy.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
If you use android tablets and android phone quite often they'll let you tether anyway.0

My brother has tried streaming MP3 from home NAS box to nexus 7 via Giffgaff PAYG dongle and fed into car radio via bluetooth from the Nexus 7 . It works so yes internet on the go is feasible its going to be more a cost of the data used .

It will constantly be swapping from cell to cell if it's a long journey which will probably cause problems and I can't see you needing this for a trip to the local Tesco. They provide WiFi in trains for a reason...0

And if you were actually going to Tesco, they provide free wifi.
