it's unlikely a few drivers made it go slow

could be windows update or av if you installed it.

backup with macrium reflect free, then you wont have to go through this again

    I am unable to install
    1. the audio and video drivers,
    2. Wireless network drivers
You've arrived too late to the party. It's already over.

    POST 8:-

    Audio driver
    video driver

No mention of the wirless driver in post 8.

Arrogance and stupidity - rarely a good combination.

Nice response to somone trying to help.

If you had brains - you'd be dangerous (and probably be able to re-install a Dell 1300 yourself - like i did).

By no means I was laughing at you. Please do not feel offended. The comment by ND made me laugh. I do appreciate all the helpful advice i get from people here and am thankful to all of you.
Thank you for trying to help me. Obviously I am not as bright as most of you, otherwise I would not be asking for help from you lot.
I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T

Arrogance prompted you to respond in that way and stupidity describes the action of not realising that another poster removed a post made in error; therefore changing the post# from #8 to #7. Still two days before you posted.
If you wish to nit-pick; if you can't spell, invest in a decent spell checker.

    Arrogance and stupidity...rarely a good combination. ;)

Not only late to the party, but an ill mannered gatecrasher to boot. :D

Thank you. You are right. It was the windows update. I have also downloaded avast as recommended by you in the other thread as AV. I will try and keep the downloads to the minmum and use this laptop as a secondary computer.
I am updating the IE to IE 8 at the moment.
Would downloading and using Google Chrome or Firefox or any other browser like Opera be a good idea?

    Thank you

if you prefer them you can, my opinion is the less bloat on there, the better it will run. IE does the job, firefox churns out a new version every week, chrome adds toolbars/updaters/bloat. The portable versions are easier to remove.

How much RAM is installed? Flying Windows key and whilst holding it down the Pause Break key.
