No-frills airline Ryanair says it will cut fares as well as some flights this winter to help keep its profits up

Is that any different to previous years?

I thought O'Leary always adds more flights & puts up prices in the summer to cash in on all those holidaymakers & weekenders.

Now the holiday season is all but over, the superfluous flights will be cut out and prices cut on other flights to keep competitive.

Still it keeps RyanAir in the news ... and no advertising fees either.
He'll be laughing all the way to the bank, or maybe I should say laughing even more all the way to the bank.

I assume what is meant is that they are cutting capacity slightly compared to last winter, not compared to the summer schedule.

Yes, that's what I assumed, too. And assumed that they were cutting prices from last winter. But it doesn't _actually_ say that...

TBH - these days I usually find Easyjet cheaper on the routes I use most.
Ryanair have cracking deals to eastern Europe and Girona etc. but nothing special to the Canaries and Southern Spain

or in other words...people are choosing to fly with other airlines over Ryan Air due to the extortionate add on fees, being fed up with being treated like cattle and the fact that they can get flights cheaper with other no frills (but more frills than) Ryan Air.

oh...and I would assume that the programme about Ryan Air Safety and pilot concerns might not be great advertising either.....

I fly Ryan Air to eastern Europe and there is nothing cracking about the fare, it's as expensive as the likes of BA but the route means we avoid a long and potentially hazardous drive when we get there.

    I wouldn't assume anything where O'Leary is concerned. ;)

Only last June he spent 15billion Euros buying 175 new planes "to provide Ryanair with the additional capacity to exploit substantial growth opportunities that now exist"
    http://www.independent.ie/business/irish/ryanair-seals-deal-for-175-boeing-planes-worth-15bn-29357456.html

He certainly won't be having them sat on the ground any more than absolutely necessary.

If fact, I'm surprised he doesn't issue passengers (i.e. make them pay for) a parachute each so they can just jump off the plane at their required destination without it ever landing
(He just need to think of a way to get the passengers on whilst still in the air and I'm sure it will be his next plan)
