HALIFAX Steer clear with bargepole!!!

I've now got my account set up, i've yet to see if all the DD are set up properly! Setting up this account has been a nightmare for me. Despite doing everything they asked.. eg DD transfer forms, signature forms... etc they kept sending me letters asking for same things saying my account would be closed if i did not respond within 7 days. i had to ring them on several occaisions. I remember my transfer to Smile a few years ago being painless and easy.. but this one!
I did get my £100. In fact I got £200... they are so inefficiant they paid me twice!! I am going to stick with them because of the rate but have my smile on stand by!£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
I have just opened 2 Halifax current accounts, the Moneyback one and High interest one.
I had some problems with the transfer from my old bank - mainly that the account had been open 3 weeks before i received the transfer forms. So I decided to cancel the transfer process and do the whole thing myself. This took 4 phonecalls to their customer services before they finally realised I didn't want them to do the transfer.
Apart from that I haven't had any problems with them and their customer services has always been really helpful and polite.
I think the main problem is that they're inundated with new accounts at the moment due to this £100 offer and that is assecting their administration0 -
If they were inundated , I don't think they'd be doing the offer again
Halifax and BOS had their offers on at different times, but the transfer team in Glasgow did it all0 -
I have had problems too, I transfered in March but there was a delay because aparently I hadn't signed forms even though I had completed everything in the local branch. I was notified about this on 3 occassions and had to go into my local branch to make sure they had dealt with this.
I then began to recieve letters from companies unable to get their DD. I then spent time on numerous phone calls trying to sort things out myself. I am still waiting for my £100 despite having paid in two months of my husband's wages and two months of my own. I had contacted them previously and was told it would be credited after two months salary had been paid in. I spoke to them again today and was told it would be credited to my account at the end of June. Here's hoping! Not worth the hasstle.0 -

I seem to recall that both had the same offer running concurrently when I applied for my Halifax HICA back in February.0 -
DD's that were supposed to have been transferred have not been. DD's that I specifically asked not to be transferred have been cancelled at my original bank.
It's always simplest IME to transfer the lot.
Like Potato, I didn't want to transfer everything, but took the precaution of setting up another account at my original bank, transferring some D/Ds and S/Os but not others, then transfering one account entirely before closing it.
This method did work without a hitch.
Phoning instructions, like the OP did subsequently, is bound to add to the odds on a snarl-up.0 -
AlMac ... I did not say that it was Martin's fault .... I just implied that I wished that he had not recommended them.
I am obviously not alone ..... others have shared tthe same or similar problems.
Butterfly... tell me how to get the multiple £100's
Don't stand much chance of getting the first £100 ... they STILL have not managed to arrange the transfer of my wages to the account ..... considering that I originally applied in February I think that this is worse than appalling.
I too had numerous letters and duplications despite their original blurb saying that this would be a simple and painless process
The only reason that I did not transfer the DD's myself was because their blurb said that they did it all for you and that this was part of the conditions to get the £100.
Definitely not worth the hassle

So a few brickbats, if he gets it wrong, should help keep his team on its toes. Otherwise he is wasting the time of thousands of people.
I suspect, however, that Halifax may not quite merit the 100% thumbs down you give them.
Perhaps it's best to gather others' findings before slagging off a company so completely, solely on the basis of one's personal experience?0 -

This is an open board where in my opinion it is important to share personal experiences to enable others to make decisions based on other peoples experience. If I had been informed of the hassles before hand I would not have switched my current account. Nobody is blaming Martin or Halifax we are only pointing out our own situation.0 -

But one person's experience does not = "Don't touch with a bargepole" without others' confirmation. It could be just that the Sheffield branch has two maternity leaves and the recent promotion of the manager to deal with.
Maybe
"Martin's Halifax recommendation has been a disaster for me"
would have been the right note to start on?0
