I had a look at the Lidl "Deluxe" range today and some excellent stuff (pack of 6 different jars of pates look good).

I'll have a look at the Aldi "Specially Selected" stuff later in the week and plan on what to buy.
I think I'll be buying lots of my Xmas "goodies" from the above shops. They aren't cheap, but aren't too expensive for premium products.
I think you could make up a decent hamper from those two shops alone with their premium products.

I bought these today, they look quite dilish. Plan to save some for boxing day and use one in a beef wellington on christmas day.
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

I'd really like to make hampers this year with a small xmas cake topped with shop bought goodies.

Am still dithering over making the cakes though, will need 10cm springform tins - any idea where I can get them?

Last year I made a large xmas cake with lidl mixed fruit - cranberry and cherry etc, it was a nice change and very delish.

The ones I bought on Saturday are in a 300gm green packet, branded Favorina and were £1.19. There are loads inside and they come in milk or dark chocolate.

I will have to make a special trip then :)

If anyone is interested, just back from Tesco and in the special offers isle (as soon as you walk in our one) there is half price bisto granules for 62p, so got a couple of the low salt to stash away and they have fun size malteasers/,mars/twix.white buttons for £1.20 something ish so I picked up one for LO and a couple for halloween

Just been to my local Aldis and as promised am letting you know they had their turkey crowns in today . Just got them in the sa said 'oh I must get one of those' I bought 3 ! Well I had to use my £5 off 40 voucher but didn't see any other christmas stuff at all much to my disappointment .

Hello. I have just come across this thread. I normally save for the £25 Wm Morrison voucher they do every Christmas and buy a fresh turkey crown from there every year - I pick one around the £22 mark -although I think I need to spend £40 instore to redeem the voucher. I always feel its FREE because of the voucher offer.

But I have never thought of getting a frozen turkey crown from Aldi. Are they good? I cannot fault the fresh one from Morrison but to be honest, it's all I have ever tried.

The thought of paying £10 for one and not using the voucher is starting to appeal to me!

    Thanks....

Christmas is not far at all! Went to lidl today and it was bursting with xmas goodies, panettone (including a chocolate one, can't remember seeing them last year), stollen, biscuits & cookies, chocolate covered fruit and nuts, liqueur chocs, fudge, xmas pudding, mince pies and more... I am a very happy bunny today, got a few and going back every week for more goodies, can't understand why the products would be seen as inferior to supermarkets' finest ranges.

I've heard of people making Christmas cakes in ordinary tin cans from baked beans or similar. I'll see if I can find a link for you.
