  • I love my partner and I tell him all the time. I don't remember ever telling anyone else that I love them (or them telling me).

I remember thinking it was weird hearing a friend tell her mum she loved her when I was younger as I just don't have that kind of family. Not that they're all horrible or anything, just don't talk about love.

I would feel very uncomfortable saying it to anyone other than my partner, and my pets of course!
  • I love my daughter, my mum, my dogs and my friend I've known for 33 years. I tell the first ones I love them every day, my friend....I would drop anything to help her out, at any time, we talk often, and I hope she knows I love the person she is, and value our friendship! Actually I'll have to tell her - she'll be ok about it.

I have 'loved' partners I've had in the past, but no longer feel that way about them. I 'fell out' with a friend 18 months ago, and I still care greatly about her & regret the loss of our friendship.

Different levels, and kinds, of love
  • I don't love my mum unfortunately. Other members (Dad & siblings) I do love but not as much as I love myself.

What I know for sure in this life is that I can only rely on myself. So I love me.

Weren't your aunties and cousins always family? :rotfl:

I have never classed people as family simply because they're are related by blood. My father left when I was born. He is, by blood my 'family' but he's not in my eyes. I've always classed family as the people who share my life and support me/call me on my crap as family. The majority of those people aren't related to me by blood.

My mum had 3 brothers. Three sisters. There's two of them I'd class ad 'family'. The others a barely know.

My mum always called my best friend her adopted daughter. And I've always been close to my friends mum and dad. They're part of my family. Just not related by blood.

Now I get what you mean. Family to me means being related either by blood or marriage. I may have little contact with them but they are still my family. There are friends who give me more support as we are in contact more but they can never be family although they can be as close as possible.

  • My son, my husband, my mum and stepdad, my nan and grandad and my mother in law mainly. I've got some degree of love for all my family and friends but these are the people I class as life changing

I love everyone who is genuinely nice to me :) Don't think I've ever been 'in love' with anyone though.

In interesting and thought provoking question.

I'm estranged from my siblings, both parents have passed away.

Other relatives are many miles away. But value the contact and support of a couple of cousins, and an Aunt.
Then there's the love-of-my-life and her family.

Still miss my cat, and though many will think it 'weird' value the guidance from my paternal grand-parents from the great beyond.

Even 'love' my goldfish for the tranquillity they give me!

I love my husband, parents, brother, sister and 2 nieces.

Parents, siblings and nieces live many miles away unfortunately. I don't love or like my in-laws at all, to me they are scheming so-and-so's.

Oops, the thread title reminded me of this track - couldn't help posting it here :D
