Totally off topic though <well ON this topic but OFF what should be topic> little legs had really been struggling with her reading, she knows ALL her sounds but has difficulty putting C A T together to make CAT (IYSWIM) - because she is so good at remembering words it took a while for the teachers to pick up on this (even though I only mentioned it a few hundred times) but 2 weeks ago they eventually dropped her down onto the lower lever reading books!
Last night she READ me he book, I was so proud of her, she made all the sounds to put the together for the word
Even miserable bollox looked up from his egg-box when her heard her READ *blanket* :T:T:T:

Fantastic news Weller, now he can tell his old boss EXACTLY where to stick his job (preferably in graphic detail...although hope it doesn't involve baked beans ).

Awwww tigtag, you must be sooo proud of her. I bet she will come on in leaps and bounds now. I can't remember how old you said she was, but younger than Ryan I think (he's 6), so to be reading words like blanket is fantastic.

She will be 5 next month so only in reception and one of the youngest to boot so I may sound like a pushy mum

She was helped along with the pictures in the book (which I believe is the point) but it was the fact that she was putting the sounds together - as if the penny had finally dropped.

The teacher did say at one point that this may have had something to do with her hearing. Because she had adapted to learn by sight thats why the coming together bit was so hard for her. Now she has to learn again to learn the same way the rest of us do - I hope all that makes sense :rotfl:

She was dead chuffed too, which was just as nice.

One thing with her is that she is SO determined, now when I say that I mean determined to do what SHE wants and when SHE wants - I have always said that *poorly* babies are born with an extra willful gene so this basically means if shes not in the *mood* she wont do it :eek:

Yes, the pictures in the book are supposed to help them along, so it's no problem if she's using those as a prompt for the trickier words. I remember you saying before that she was determined and willful, not surprising really if some parts of her life have been a bit of a battle. Just goes to show what humans are capable of when they're really up against it. I bet she'll do really well now she's got the hang of it.
