Knorr was taken to task some years ago, you may recall, because of the excessively high salt content in their stock cubes and packet soups.
If you don't believe me, then look for yourself. The average Knorr stock cube contains 6 times the amount of salt than the equivalent Oxo cube.
1 knorr cube makes up 450ml of stock
1 oxo makes up 190ml of stock
discovered that to my cost when making soup n ended up using nearly 30 oxo cubes compared to my normal 12 knorr (i was just makin a 'small' pot that day)
i know there's still a difference in the salt levels but i dont normally have to add any more salt to a knorr cube0 -

just to pitch in my tuppence worth on the stock cube issue - oxo has msg added for flavour, knorr don't any longer, so probably need more salt0

I always prefered Knorr everything.
I don't usually need to add any seasoning once you use knorr. And I am not affraid of salt. And you definitely use less Knorr.
It's just my prefered brand.0 -
I've been put off Knorr since they started using Marco Pierre White to advertise their products. Really, really can't stand the bloke.0

And just to add mine, or rather my twenty pence worth!;) I use Sainsbury's basic cubes at 20 p for 10. They have less salt than Knorr but it's the price that attracts.:D
Although they have gone up from 10p to 15p to 20p in a few short months!:eek:0 -

Just like my butcher who lets me have beef bones for the dog
and no I don't have a dog either. I have been a customer to both of them for over 25 years though so they are used to my cheek :rotfl:
Our local butcher used to put aside bones and carcasses for stock at no cost!
In the winter would get 3 chicken carcasses and find loads of breast meat still on them plus 6 wings (no-one wants them outside barbie season). Enough for stir fry, sticky wings, a curry or pie filling and then stock.
Sadly they changed hands and now longer allow let you have them, even for sale.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
My butcher is happy to give out bones. If I buy shin beef for soup or stew it comes without the bone (most people probably don't want it if that's how they sell it), but he'll ask if you want a bone with it at no extra cost, and will hand out a bagful if you want them for a dog. I think many butchers stopped doing it during the BSE/CJD crisis, but they are safe now.
Yesterday I asked if they did boneless legs/thighs and he said they'd be happy to prepare them if I ask, I'll keep the bones for soup too

I must admit I dislike Jamie intensely, it's not his fault, he just looks like an ex-boyfriend of mine, ex is also a multimillionaire now, makes me sick!
Anyways that besides the point, OH just bought me the Save with Jamie book, which really should be renamed this is no different from his other books, but what I do like about it is how much veg he's using in all his recipes. Love the idea of a whole red onion replacing sausages in Toad in the hole, I've add sliced onions to yorkies before but that didn't work, I love whole baked onions so I'll definitely try this.
I have a huge collection of cookery books, but I never follow recipes, apart from when baking or using The Takeaway Secret, I always find buying all the right ingredients ends up costing too much, so I just use them for inspiration and I must say I got some good ideas from this book.0
