As my previous posts may have hinted at, this programme annoyed me for many reasons stretching from the way it's all been marketed down to me wanting to shout at the TV 'if you're such a great chef, you'd be able to cook on a proper tight budget and actually be helpful for people who need help with that!'
So to quell my ranting about how going to the lowest common denominator would prove more help and the quality of a chefs talent, I've decided to take on a little challenge. Whatever the bedrock meal cost is - I'm going to try and make a plan for a weeks meals out of it.
If it's ripped to shreds, so be it. At least I'll give it a crack and hopefully less scary outbursts will happen as I'm usually quite calm. However if it proves useful to people, I'll put my ranting where my sanity was and make it into a proper blog with video demos accessible for free, to all, on my company's website.
So, this week's budget according to the C4 link to My Supermarket is £17.16 and I'll post something tomorrow with what I can come up with."We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot.

Don't like him much.

Got to love TK Maxx. My kitchen would be empty without them and car boots!"We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot.

I'm not sure how i take Jamie Oliver with his cooking (i much prefer Hugh Frittingly-Whittingley) but at least he has a go and, of course, he'll court some approval as well as disapproval. Better than that crevice faced idiot Ramsay who just shouts and swears at everyone. How the hell he hasn't had a 'cap' in his !!! from his time on the US shows is beyond me.....0

I just spent over an hour browsing the book and found quite a few recipes I really fancy trying.
He also has some good ideas for using up leftovers and some ideas for home made pickle, chapatis etc.
DH just grew an enormous pumpkin so have used half of it to make soup and hope once it is blended and seasoned everyone will like it. Tried suggesting to Dh that we offered the other half of it to next door neighbour but seems he is not around just now."This site is addictive!"

Have you thought of making stuffed pasta with it or a type of gnocchi?"We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot.

I did the slow roasted shoulder of pork from his new book last night. It was lovely. Tonight we are going to have the ragu with leftover pork and I'm planning to do the pork tacos later this week.0

Jamie's recipes usually taste fantastic - however he's responsible for my OH frequently spending £20 on ingredients for one meal!!! Most of which get thrown away because they're weird things that we can't think of any uses for.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A.
