Just a very malicious person with some kind of axe to grind.

There's no way of knowing what motivated the person who made the report.

If they genuinely believed that someone was fraudulently claiming benefits, I think it's good that they made the report.

OP if you have'nt done anything wrong there really is'nt any need to worry. Im sure there is some kind of paper trail someone to link him to either his mothers or his new girlfriends. I did on a previous post ask what address his employers hold for him, maybe this will help or does he also use yours for work purposes?
You need to be speaking to him and making sure he is doing everything he can do to help prove he is not resident at your address.

I have interviewed people in front of a solicitor where they have been advised to go 'no comment' and then at the end of the IUC, when the tapes have been switched off, they often want to say something - which by then is TOO LATE. So its not always a good idea, particularly if you want to say something in mitigation.

It is never to late, you can always offer to conduct a further interview if the accused wants too add something relevant.

    Hi Poppie.

His employers have his mothers address on their files, and also his tax returns with HMRC are in his mothers address...and has been since he did his yearly tax return in January. Although he isn't living with his mother (purely just staying there occasionally), he did change a couple of things over....but only those.

His driving license, bank account etc are all still in my address, although he does it all pretty much paperless.

I can take those 2 things along with his mothers address on, but I don't want to drag his mother into it...this is the problem. She has been very poorly, and the last thing I want is people turning up questioning her or watching her house, as she's on a state pension, and doesn't have a lot of money.

So I'm torn what to do? I wasn't even planning to show them these documents because I didn't want to involve anyone else. People's lives are complicated enough.

I need to stop reading other stories and forums online, because from reading these I'm getting the impression that guilty or not, it doesn't really matter. If you don't have the evidence to prove otherwise, or they think you are guilty, you're basically screwed.

OP you need to stop worrying about anyone else, if he does'nt live with you and you can provide proof that he lives elsewhere you need to do it. Take the proof that you have got to the interview, if you have the proof and and at some stage they uncover it they will wonder why you did'nt provide it. This can along with any footage they have of him arriving and leaving your house help to make a case against you.
People need to help themselves in cases like this and not just hope for the best.

If he doesn't live at his mothers, where does he live? Could this be the fraud element they are looking at.

  • Can't offer much advice mumof1littlegirl, but I wish you well. Please don't worry. They are just doing their job and they will soon realise that you're not a criminal or a fraudster.

Hope all goes well. Take care x

I felt SO much better for writing it all down on paper and seeing it in front of me. More in control of the situation.

So I've pretty much done all I can do I think.

Well done - that will make everything easier at the meeting.

Try to relax now and catch up on your sleep. If baby has a sleep during the day tomorrow, have a catnap as well.

    Good luck!

  • I have read this through with interest and really feel for you.

Good luck tomorrow but it doesn't sound like your going to need it. You know the truth and I'm sure it will be clear to the interviewer that you are not living together.

Seems everyone's little ones are catching the cold this week :( I hope you get some sleep tonight.

    Please update us tomorrow :)
