  • Me thinks the light bulb is on a dimmer switch and flickering!

When I had debts, my aim was to pay them off in full and vowed to never go down that road again.

I did just that and love being debt free.

I don't quite understand your thinking Alex. Considering a buy to let when you have debts is madness. We have two but had cleared all our debts before we even contemplated such a huge venture.

All my debt is still with its original creditor. I signed an agreement that they would lend me the money, if I was not able to pay it within a certain time I would be charged interest on this borrowing. I agreed and signed on the dotted line. Just because my debt is smaller than yours why should I continue to meet my obligations when someone who has many more means than myself doesn't have to.

I understand doing F&Fs on the DCAs. If the bank decided they didn't want their money then so be it, but if you are still with the original creditors you have an obligation, both contractual and moral to make the repayments.

We'd all love to spend our money on other things, but you know what, tough sh*t! We got ourselves in this mess and now we need to get ourselves out of it. Try and remember the fortunate position you are in Alex and remember that many here would chop off their right arm to have the options that you do. :)

Thank you for all the advice, this is a quick response as we are just about to head out for the afternoon. Personally, I do not see what is wrong with doing F&F with the collection agencies but the ones that are with original creditors I was considering leaving them until they went to agencies, which is not really the way forward when I do want to move on.

My parents always told me nobody got anywhere in life playing fairly. Unfortunately, my conscience cannot really take screwing people over.

Hi Alex iv just caught up with your posts and oh dear me!! . Alex you need to mix with more people outside of your family.
Its sad that even with the best education your view of life is so narrow. Id suggest doing some work in state funded schools and meet those council estate parents. Nothing like real life education. Better still food banks where even those in work feel the need to use.
It seems you have been kicked up the rear with regards to your snobby ill informed views so Ill leave it there.
Now carry on with the good work of clearing your debt.

Oh and Alex I came from a council estate, my children to state funded schools and now my son is in uni.

Not really had a good couple of hours this afternoon. Feeling rather disgusted with myself after two brandy laced coffees as well wondering if I am beginning to lose my way again. On the plus side I did stop myself from spending any money.

I'm not really doing myself any favours at the moment, am I?

ETA: Mrs. K. is a Structural Engineer so doesn't need a good credit report. However, all the debt has been accumulated in my name only, all she has is the mortgage (which we've always paid).

I will respond to other posts this evening once I am in a better state of mind.

I won't dwell on it, as much has been said before. But your attitude to people is baffling, you have acknowledged earlier in the thread that those from affluent backgrounds are just as likely to be bad influences, yet still make these assumptions. How about assuming people are kind and well meaning, until proved otherwise? It is a much more cheerful view of the world than assuming everyone awful because of their socks/paying rent whatever.

I also wanted to mention how appalled I am by your earlier comment to Mrs k about baking. This is the 21st century, shockingly men can do that to! :rotfl:
Start with something easy, get little k to help mix, and take something along as a contribution for lunch tomorrow. Shortbread needs butter, sugar, flour, bet you've got those things already. Best thing is no-one can say you mucked it up if you have little'uns help!

You sound down in your last post. Don't beat yourself up, we're all here to learn.
You making progress. Onwards and upwards :T

Alex as Iv said before we all make mistakes yours is that your too honest. At least you voice your opinions though lots of people would avoid doing so. I actually admire you in a way as you are prepared to take the flack and apologise when your wrong.
We are a product of our upbringing and life experience thats why boards like this are a positive thing as they let you see into other peoples lives.
  • Hello Alex, I have enjoyed reading this diary, I think you are trying to clear your debt, but actions speak louder than words and you really need to raise money by selling some of your trinkets.
Also as posted on your SOA, you and Mrs K have a combined monthly income of £2740 after tax, you sell on ebay, and you are on benefits???
Please tell me that taxpayers are not supporting your lifestyle.
