So very pleased for you Alex
I have been cheering you on from the sidelines since you started the journey and although it seems strange to say to someone I don't know .....
I am proud of you
Well done

It doesn't matter if it doesn't materialize that your wife doesn't pay off her debts. At least you are showing her what life might be like in the future and are being a role model. Fantastic work. You're right, she might go back to her old ways next weekend but at least she is demonstrating that she is starting to think slightly differently. That is a huge step forward from when I last commented on your diary. A LONG time ago as I think we got a bit cross with each other
Glad to see you didn't give up and you are doing brilliantly.
Hope Little K is well.

Hi there,
Thank you.
I cannot recall getting cross with you? Anyhow, sorry if I offended you. I've learnt a lot from posting on here. Before last year I never considered myself "well off" or from a particularly "privileged" background, I suppose it was just "normal" to me and I had usually mixed with people at least if not more "well off" than I. Looking back to the start of this diary I realise I was still in that mind set.
The buying things was, I suppose, my way of compensating for being someone not very nice. Looking at this logically, it's no wonder once that was taken from me I've become more depressed. However, I do not want to be in the position of being the one to squander my son's inheritance and shall carry on trying to live within my means.
:rotfl: At me as a "role model". I hope she does pay the credit cards off but ultimately I know it's her choice.
My son is very well, thank you. This weekend we went for a long walk locally to see what wildlife we could spot for the first time this year.Debsnewbudget wrote: »So very pleased for you Alex

Thank you, patanne. I'm actually going to miss writing this diary but will not use that as an excuse to get myself into debt again.2018 totals:

Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
Why would you stop writing your diary. You may not actually be in debt but then neither am I. I seriously do think you need your diary to stop you from going there. Besides which I will miss it/you!
Debt free is a state of mind not just a state of finances. I really do not want to see you back here with debts - so please carry on with your diary. Besides which, I need to hear the stories of miniK growing up.
You have a responsibility here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or you could just move over to mortgage free diaries - that way we can follow you - no way you can escape that easily!!!0 -
Definitely keep writing, Alex! We all like hearing from you

You MUST keep writing!
I've followed you from the beginning and I completley take my hat off to you, what a journey - and you did it! I won't lie, in the beginning I wasn't sure you would.
Well done to you!- [STRIKE]Credit Card: £2,989 / £2,989[/STRIKE]

I hadn't considered anyone actually liked to read the drivel I post.I would like to carry on with the diary but thought it was perhaps redundant.
I do absolutely agree with you about debt free being a state of mind. Today I realised that I have put the new principles into practice; a pupil of mine asked about rosin and I happened to mention I could get it a couple of quid cheaper for them. Anyway, they said they didn't care because it's not a lot of money and I said it was up to them but wondered why they'd not bother to save about 20%? That would not have crossed my mind a year ago.
As for my son, I'd happily let you take him for free today ... :rotfl:
Not sure about a diary in mortgage free, they are scarily good with their finances in there. As somebody who doesn't know the difference between a SIPP and an ISA, I think I'd let the side down.heartbreak_star wrote: »Definitely keep writing, Alex! We all like hearing from you

Never mind you not being sure, I wasn't sure until about half the debt was cleared. :rotfl:2018 totals:

well done. Youve been on a journey of many ups, downs, positives negatives, yet all through it you maintained dignity, hope and a kind heart.
You have turned a corner on more than one front, to be honest you've exceeded on more fronts than maybe you know.
Keep writing even if its a weekly update on how life is going, whats happening.
You take care xxxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
