    Hi Alex, :santa2:

A while ago you said you'd avoid the temptation of spending money by not leaving the house.. A remark which grated on me, because I can guarantee you'll feel better in yourself if you make a point of getting some fresh air every day (no matter how appalling the weather).
NB: Going outside does not equate to going shopping. ;)

Yes Robin - and I do all my shopping online anyway!!

Definitely agree being out in the fresh air is a good mood booster.

Also its still free listings on ebay I think.

Thank you all, I'm hoping one day I'll get there. At the moment I'm not even existing for me and to be honest the business is on a bit of a downer because I've failed to put the effort in after having a big order cancelled due to my customer's financial situation.

Roland: This morning I received an email about government grants to assist small businesses to develop an online presence (something to be quite frank I ought to try to do), my initial thought was to presume they'll have much bigger, more important (and better) businesses to fund than mine. However, now I'm thinking it doesn't cost anything other than my time (which I have lots of) to put together an application. Waiting for the "scrounger" comments to come now.... :o

Chev: I have not thought like that, gives me something to consider.

Robin: I realise this. However, I've only really been going out of the house for work and my son for so long it's all rather daunting. The year before my son was born, I can count on one hand the number of times I left the house.

You have a very screwed up view of the world. It's a shame because I get the impression that it's really holding you back.

These are grants specifically for business people in your situation. They're not hand-outs, they're not 'charity'; the government is making them available because they want to encourage entrepreneurship and the generation of wealth.

Of course you should take advantage of them. It sounds like an excellent opportunity. Definitely put in an application.

When I was planning to undertake my MSc, I wrote to a lot of grant-making organisations to see if they'd help fund my course. I didn't think of it as scrounging because that was the entire point of the grants. That's what they're there for.

  • Hello Alex!

:-) I have done something rather different today to what I am use to! :-)

Thank you Roland for the clarification, you are right. Alex, you are the expert or who knows best his situation than we will ever know. You know deep in your heart the path to follow and it appears that there is this mammoth obstacle that prevents! Your fear?

Anyway, for counselling to work will require of your co operation. There are so many psychological or talking therapy interventions to mental health and sometimes clients find that some does not suit them so they become disillusioned about it and walk away.
In the past, some have suggested CBT and I would agree with that but as I stated it depends what you want out of it. Perhaps you can google CBT?

I think we agreed in the past about the downside for business during this time of the year, just because an order has failed doesn't mean your business has or you as a person! Nor it predicts the outcome for your business for 2014!
I think it is a great idea to step to the different online platforms to show your business. There is a website called: small business matters, where they give great ideas!

The grant is for small businesses, as others have said its not charity, its is to keep the British economy going - what have you got to lose an hour filling in the forms, - try it, you never know.

I know the person pulled out, but turn a negative into a positive, ok he pulled out, but at least he didn't have the goods and you would have been doubly out of pocket.

Take a day out, clear your head, then knuckle down to the business, - what does it need
    new leads?
    equipments?

Things like that - then break each one down into how you improve it.

Consider ebay - its free listing at the moment
Join your local facebook sellers groups. In the last couple of days i've sold a TV, old video/dvd player, - I got £35, but that £35 is a bonus.

I've got people coming for other items
    5 jumpers - DD didnt wear - too small now - £15
    BT vision box - £10

The clothes that DD grows out of, usually get given to her friend, this way we get a bit of money back.

    All worth a try xxx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Lannie: I'm actually writing an application as we speak, if I don't do things as soon as I feel like doing so, they do not get done. It's currently driving me a little up the wall though, write a sentence, delete most of it, write a little more and repeat.

Iwillsucceed: I have googled CBT before and looked into it a little bit, unfortunately I have struggled to really understand it.

mum2one: More a big dose of "can't be bothered", I'm afraid to say. :o Mrs. K. is currently sticking up a poster in my study stating business aims for 2014, to be honest I feel sick just thinking about it and yet I do really want to do well at this. Which is the problem; things I want to do well at I usually end up giving up and failing with (didn't used to be like this when I was younger).

I'll get Mrs. K. to put things on facebook (I'm off looking on there for the moment as it only winds me up) and will do a bit of eBaying later on in the week.

I'm back on here again with the self fulfilling prophecy. You are far too used to someone telling you that you cannot do something. Repeat after me "I can do this and I will succeed". Let this be your new self fulfilling prophecy and not the oh no I will mess up. WE all know you can do it - the only one who needs convincing is you.

Never done or had CBT myself but I believe t helps you move from negative thoughts so that you 'act as if' you had the qualities and whatever you want (confidence etc).

Apparently the mind has a sort of negative default setting anyway so we have to work at changing it to positive. Its easy to get into thinking negative thoughts and these have to be exchanged for positive ones.

Paul Mckenna does the same sort of thing I think.
